Mobistar CQ vs Xiaomi Redmi 5A
The budget smartphone segment is arguably the most hotly contested segment in India. While the Xiaomi Redmi 5a has been the go-to device for consumers for some time now, the recently unveiled Mobistar CQ poses a serious threat to Xiaomi’s offering. So, which smartphone should you buy if you have a budget of Rs 6,000. Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.
Design and Display
In terms of design, both the contenders we have here today sport plastic builds. However, the devices feel really durable in the hand and are quite ergonomic thanks to their compact form factor. Coming to the displays, both the smartphones sport 5-inch IPS LCD panels which have a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels.
The two phones look evenly matched when we move to the hardware department too. In terms of performance, both the Mobistar CQ as well as the Redmi 5A are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 chip which has been clocked at 1.4GHz. For RAM, the Mobiistar CQ ships with 2GB of memory, though one can get the Redmi 5A with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM. The combination should help buyers play casual games comfortably on both the devices.
For storage, the Mobiistar CQ ships with 16GB of built-in memory. On the other hand, the Redmi 5A gets either 16GB or 32GB of storage, depending upon which RAM model you’ve opted for. For the purpose of this comparison, we’re considering the 2GB RAM models of the two devices. The built-in storage of both the smartphones should suffice for most users, though both smartphones do feature expandable memory up to 128GB as well. Both phones also feature dedicated microSD card slots, which means you don’t have to miss out on dual-SIM functionality if you want to add more storage. The Mobiilstar CQ does have an advantage in the connectivity department, as boasts ViLTE support, a feature that the Redmi 5A is missing. ViLTE stands for “Video over LTE”, and enhances both voice and video calls when made over 4G networks.
Battery-wise, the Mobiistar CQ comes with a 3,020mAh cell. On the contrary, the Redmi 5A comes with a slightly smaller 3,000mAh pack. Coupled with their energy-efficient displays and processors, both smartphones should deliver solid battery life.
Camera and software
While both our contenders have been neck-and-neck so far, the Mobiistar CQ edges ahead of the Redmi 5A thanks to its high-resolution 13MP selfie-camera. In contrast, the Redmi 5A features a low-res 5MP selfie camera. Therefore, if you click a lot of selfies, then the Mobiistar CQ should be the smartphone for you.
That being said, the Redmi 5A offers a relatively higher resolution sensor at the back and ships with a 13MP primary camera. The Mobiistar CQ offers an 8--megapixel primary camera in comparison. In the software department, both the smartphones boot Android Nougat v7.1.2 with their respective custom skins on top.
The 2GB RAM variant of the Mobiistar CQ retails for Rs 4,999, which is Rs 1,000 cheaper than the 2GB RAM variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. Moreover, the handset even one ups the competition in the selfie department as it is backed by a superior front facing shooter. In addition to promising better selfies, the Mobiistar CQ also brings better connectivity options over and above the Redmi 5A, and that too, at a lower price. All in all, the Mobiistar CQ will definitely shake some trees in the budget segment thanks to its competitive pricing and powerful selfie camera.
