Mongols Shirts and Crash Course Posters! http://store.dftba.com/collections/crashcourse In which John Green wraps up revolutions month with what is arguably the most revolutionary of modern revolutions, the Industrial Revolution. While very few leaders were beheaded in the course of this one, it changed the lives of more people more dramatically than any of the political revolutions we've discussed. So, why did the Industrial Revolution happen around 1750 in the United Kingdom? Coal. Easily accessible coal, it turns out. All this, plus you'll finally learn the difference between James Watt and Thomas Newcomen, and will never again be caught telling people that your blender has a 900 Newcomen motor. Today, we're going to begin our discussion of Big Data. Everything from which videos we click (and how long we watch them) on YouTube to our likes on Facebook say a lot about us - and increasingly more and more sophisticated algorithms are being designed to learn about us from our clicks and not-clicks. Today we're going to focus on some ways Big Data impacts on our lives from what liking Hello Kitty says about us to how Netflix chooses just the right thumbnail to encourage us to watch more content. And Big Data is necessarily a good thing, next week we're going to discuss some of the problems that rise from collecting all that data. Crash Course is on Patreon! Subscribe if you like! + http://bit.ly/1PG8z9G We're doing the Clear Cut scenario in Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul, and luckily the scenario ends up putting us through several instances that teach us more about using the trains, including doing a cold start, messing around in the fuse box, and all the prelminiary set up that comes in before the train actually starts driving. On top of that, we've got to do some crazy track switching in order to get the locomotive from one side of the yard and attached to cars located several tracks over, it's a real pain, but with some persistence we can pull it off. Kevin Kamps, a specialist in the management and transport of nuclear high-level waste for the group "Beyond Nuclear" (Beyond Nuclear) summarizes the main risks here, accidents and incidents related to the nuclear industry since its inception, the "Manhattan Project", the race for the nuclear bomb that will be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It also draws a parallel between the various accidents in the United States and Japan, which are very similar. Is it really surprising when you know the involvement of the United States in the development of nuclear energy in Japan after the war, with "Atoms for Peace" program (Atoms for Peace) launched by Eisenhower in 1953 and the involvement of the CIA? It will also discuss the concealment of information on security breaches in the nuclear industry, and frequent collusion between regulators and industry. Residents and visitors both revel in Kauai’s lush landscape, and beneath its seascape. However, it’s underwater where things don’t look so healthy. Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey put together a detailed picture of the physical environment of the coral reefs at Makua Beach. Understanding just what these reefs are exposed to and for how long, may help explain why some corals here have succumbed to black band disease. In this lecture, I discuss the context within which the theory I am delineating through this course emerge: that of the cold war. What is belief? Why is it so important to people? Why will they fight to protect it? I propose that belief unites a culture's expectations and desires with the actions of its people, and that the match between those two allows for cooperative action and maintains emotional stability. I suggest, further, that culture has a deep narrative structure, presenting the world as a forum for action, with characters representing the individual, the known, and the unknown -- or the individual, culture and nature -- or the individual, order and chaos. --- SUPPORT THIS CHANNEL --- Direct Support: https://www.jordanbpeterson.com/donate Merchandise: https://teespring.com/stores/jordanbpeterson --- BOOKS --- 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos: https://jordanbpeterson.com/12-rules-for-life/ Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief: https://jordanbpeterson.com/maps-of-meaning/ --- LINKS --- Website: https://jordanbpeterson.com/ 12 Rules for Life Tour: https://jordanbpeterson.com/events/ Blog: https://jordanbpeterson.com/blog/ Podcast: https://jordanbpeterson.com/podcast/ Reading List: https://jordanbpeterson.com/great-books/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordan.b.peterson/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drjordanpeterson --- PRODUCTS --- Self Authoring Suite: https://selfauthoring.com/ Understand Myself personality test: https://understandmyself.com/ Merchandise: https://teespring.com/stores/jordanbpeterson

Text Mining the Contributors to Rail Accidents http://jpinfotech.org/final-year-ieee-projects/2016-ieee-projects/ To get this project in ONLINE or through TRAINING Sessions, Contact: JP INFOTECH, Old No.31, New No.86, 1st Floor, 1st Avenue, Ashok Pillar, Chennai -83.Landmark: Next to Kotak Mahendra Bank. Pondicherry Office: JP INFOTECH, #45, Kamaraj Salai,Thattanchavady, Puducherry -9.Landmark: Next to VVP Nagar Arch. Mobile: (0) 9952649690, Email: [email protected], web: www.jpinfotech.org, Blog: www.jpinfotech.blogspot.com Rail accidents represent an important safety concern for the transportation industry in many countries. In the 11 years from 2001 to 2012, the U.S. had more than 40 000 rail accidents that cost more than $45 million. While most of the accidents during this period had very little cost, about 5200 had damages in excess of $141 500. To better understand the contributors to these extreme accidents, the Federal Railroad Administration has required the railroads involved in accidents to submit reports that contain both fixed field entries and narratives that describe the characteristics of the accident. While a number of studies have looked at the fixed fields, none have done an extensive analysis of the narratives. This paper describes the use of text mining with a combination of techniques to automatically discover accident characteristics that can inform a better understanding of the contributors to the accidents. The study evaluates the efficacy of text mining of accident narratives by assessing predictive performance for the costs of extreme accidents. The results show that predictive accuracy for accident costs significantly improves through the use of features found by text mining and predictive accuracy further improves through the use of modern ensemble methods. Importantly, this study also shows through case examples how the findings from text mining of the narratives can improve understanding of the contributors to rail accidents in ways not possible through only fixed field analysis of the accident reports.

Vehicle collisions are a major source of equipment damage, lost productivity and even personnel injury or death in open-pit mining. Teck Resources is introducing technology to raise operator awareness of their surroundings and minimise vehicle to vehicle contact incidents. The SAFEmine Traffic Awareness and Collision Avoidance System is one component of an overall solution to meet Teck’s functional requirements. The SAFEmine system was demonstrated at Line Creek Operations in British Columbia, Canada to evaluate effectiveness in the difficult conditions seen at this operation. Data collected throughout the demonstration was interpreted to determine what effect the SAFEmine system had on site safety. Areas of interest were speeding, following too close, light vehicle to heavy vehicle interactions, and heavy to heavy vehicle interactions. Trial success was based on factors including GPS accuracy, system reliability, intelligent alarming, system usability and overall site improvement.

http://thoriumremix.com Coal ash piles contain more radioactive material than released by any operating nuclear power plant. Pollution from coal kills hundreds of thousands of people every year. Yet Germany and Japan are building additional coal plants to replace nuclear power plants. This has a short-term cost in lives (due to air pollution) and very serious implications for global warming. As our van of thorium advocates discuss various energy options, we hear from prominent environmentalists and climatologists who support (or who have recently come to support) expansion of nuclear power. Support of nuclear power among climate scientists is nothing new, but creating this video would have been impossible even 1 year ago. That we can quickly summarize why these scientists changes their minds is thanks to "Pandora's Promise" http://pandoraspromise.com/ by Robert Stone (prominent environmentalist). He had come to change his mind about nuclear power, and has fellow environmentalists explain their own pro-nuclear reasoning as an indirect means of expressing his own. What "Pandora's Promise" does not include is Robert Stone's own voice (except when he confronts prominent anti-nuke Dr. Helen Caldicott from behind the camera). It is Robert Stone (and fellow pro-nuclear environmentalists) interviews surrounding Pandora's Promise that has allowed this video summary to be created. Baroness Bryony Worthington's offers additional commentary on the environmentalist perspective, having worked on climate change for Friends of the Earth, and drafted the extremely impactful UK Climate Change Bill. The bills was passed in late 2013, and helps ensure that existing coal plants in UK need to meet similar emission standards as new ones... a significant step in reducing UK GHG emissions. "Next Generation Reactors" are discussed by both Pandora's Promise environmentalists, and our van full of thorium advocates. Not every environmentalist or scientist shown here is talking in support of the same "next generation" reactor. We take a closer look at different next-generation reactors in a future video chapter. But all pro-nuclear scientists do agree that any next-generation reactor will achieve a much higher level of passive safety ("walk away safe"), will help reduce our carbon emissions, and will save hundreds of thousands of lives thanks to reductions in deadly air pollution created by burning fossil fuels. There has been much debate over the expansion of nuclear energy in India, the arguments covering a gamut of angles from safety and environmental concerns to liability, security and affordability. However, whether India should go down the nuclear path is a moot question. The issue is not if India needs nuclear energy but how quickly it can expand its capacity. To understand this, a few data points about its present situation need to be kept in mind. As of January 2018, India generated 331 GW of electricity. Of this, some 66 per cent comes from thermal energy, 13.6 per cent from hydroelectric power, 18 per cent from renewable energy, and a mere two per cent from nuclear energy. Industry consumes 40 per cent of the total capacity, agriculture takes 18 per cent, domestic consumption is 24 per cent, and the rest goes to railways, commercial use, and other odds and ends. India’s per capita consumption of power is approximately 1,122 kWh and over 240 million people in India still have no access to electricity. By way of comparison, the United States (US) consumes over 12,000 kWh per capita, China utilises 4,310 kWh per person, and the countries in western Europe such as France, Germany and Britain approximately 6,500 kWh. The connection between energy consumption and economic growth cannot be overemphasised. The present definition of rural electrification employed by the government of India is that a village is considered electrified if 10 per cent of the households have at least one electric point. Even functional electrification – televisions, refrigerators, computers, mobile phones, air conditioning, fans – to all without considering any increase in industrial and other demands would require a mammoth increase in generating capacity no matter how conservatively electricity is used. The demand for electricity will only increase as India’s economy and population grow, with greater manufacturing capability and a more prosperous citizenry desirous of the many comforts of life. Several studies have predicted that India’s electricity needs will rise some eight times by the middle of this century. Environmental and all other considerations aside, this purely physical bottleneck is one of the greatest arguments for the aggressive expansion of nuclear power in India. The difference in the energy release of chemical and nuclear processes is several orders of magnitude higher for the latter. The fission of one atom of uranium releases as much energy as the combustion of 33 million atoms of carbon. This means that uranium is far more energy-dense than carbon, making transportation far easier. The rapid expansion of nuclear power and a gradual shift from coal will free enormous capacity in Indian transportation infrastructure, saving billions in unnecessary expansion costs for roads, rail networks and ports. This is from merely the logistical benefits of shifting from coal to nuclear – other equally compelling factors have not been considered in this article for reasons of brevity and focus. Can this not be achieved via other means, such as solar or wind power? The short answer is no. It is one thing to reduce the burden on the grid by installing solar panels on residential buildings but domestic electricity consumption represents only 22 per cent of the total. Scaling up renewable energy to meet the demands of the next century is a challenge of an entirely different magnitude. Again limiting ourselves to analysing logistical difficulties alone, mining the rare earths for the solar panelling and energy storage required is well beyond global manufacturing capabilities. If India is to have ample energy for its economic growth and that story includes high speed rail, electric cars, and other substitutions of electrical power for fossil fuels, it cannot afford not to get bullish on nuclear power. At present, some 40 reactor projects are ongoing or have been stalled due to legal complications but Delhi should not be thinking about 30 or 40 reactors – it should be considering 300 or 400. The first thing most West Virginians think of when they hear the name Don Blankenship is the explosion. The former coal executive served a one-year prison sentence after he was convicted of conspiring to violate federal mine safety and health standards following the 2010 disaster at Massey Energy's Upper Big Branch coal mine. The accident left 29 workers dead. Such a corporate scandal would cause many chief executives to resign from public life forever. But Blankenship is trying to rewrite his own plot with a new line: U.S. senator from West Virginia. Blankenship has a shot at winning Tuesday's Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat in West Virginia, if internal GOP polling reported by the Weekly Standard is any indication. Despite (or maybe because of) opposition from the GOP establishment, Blankenship is garnering 28 percent of the primary vote in that poll, with his nearest opponent barely behind with 27 percent. But the Upper Big Branch explosion is not Blankenship's first run-in with critics. Neither is his Senate run -- featuring a recent incendiary television spot about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell helping “China people." In fact, as he rose through the ranks of Massey Energy, Blankenship again and again attracted harsh rebuke — and even a few bullets. Here's a run down: — “We don't have any love for the union”: In the mid-1980s, the United Mine Workers went on strike against Massey, which at the time employed about 1,100 workers in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. Blankenship, then a manager at a Massey subsidiary, was tasked with dealing with the miners. Massey broke with the rest of the coal industry by refusing to sign a 1984 deal with the union to end the strike. Miners believed the company was trying to break up the union by insisting on separate contracts for each of its many offshoot companies. A year after the start of the strike, nonunion coal trucks drove through a union blockade, damaging the cars of striking miners. Blankenship said the drivers smashed the blockade because they “feared for their lives.” Blankenship eventually “brought in replacement workers [and] armed security,” union president Cecil E. Roberts told The Washington Post in 2010. It was during this strike, according to Blankenship, that an unknown gunman shot 11 bullets into his office, including one into a TV set he would later come to display as a kind of trophy. “I'm ready to be killed for this reason,” Blankenship told The Washington Post in the 1980s, seeing the fight not as one between a corporation and its workers but as one between nationwide union and local managers. “The UMW is trying to take away our freedom,” Blankenship said at the time. “We don't have any love for the union. I firmly believe they tried to kill us on several occasions.” — Bigger than Exxon Valdez: In 2000, Blankenship's first year as Massey's chief executive, the bottom of one of the company's coal slurry impoundments broke into the mines below it, allowing the gooey waste to ooze into waterways in Kentucky and West Virginia. The sludge, laden with arsenic and mercury, “killed everything in the streams, all the way to the Ohio River,” Jack Spadaro, a Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) engineer, told "60 Minutes” in 2004. Spadaro had become a whistleblower by then when, as he describes it, the George W. Bush administration prematurely closed its investigation into Massey following the spill. MSHA is a division of the Labor Department, which at the time was headed by Elaine Chao — who, in a bit of irony, is President Trump's transportation secretary as well as Mitch McConnell's wife. The spill was “vastly larger in scale than the oil spill from the Exxon Valdez,” according to ProPublica reporter and McConnell biographer Alec MacGillis. — Other deadly accidents: Even before the deadly 2010 disaster, “Upper Big Branch miners lost more time on the job through worksite accidents than did other miners nationally” in seven of the eight years before that accident, The Post reported in 2010. The statistics were stark: Between 2005 and 2010, the MSHA cited the mine for 1,342 safety violations and $1.89 million in proposed fines. Before the explosion, three miners had died there after 1998. And at another mine, more w

China Electricity Council predicted that China's east, middle, and northeast areas will be the hardest-hit this summer, and shortages could increase next year. The "power shortage" gives electric power companies an excuse to raise their prices, which in turn affects people's daily power consumption. Yu Yanshan, Deputy Director of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, told the National Economic Weekly: "From coal-deficient provinces like Qinghai, Hubei, and Hunan to coal-producing provinces like Shanxi, Shanxi, and Henan, many other power plants have shut down due to the ''lack of coal." It is the worst ''power shortage'' in seven years." According to power industry sources, the so-called "power shortage" exists not because coal is expensive but because electricity is cheap. Plants are losing money when they produce power, so they shut down. According to China Electricity Council's statistics, from January to April, five power groups including Huaneng, Datang, Huadian, Guodian, and China Power Investment, lost over $1.54 billion, due to Coal's skyrocketing prices. Many small power plants have also "shut down" after facing heavy losses. Li Chaolin, an energy expert from the China Coal Transportation and Marketing Association, told Sound of Hope, "The''power shortage'' is due to Electricity's imbalanced market-oriented reform." Li Chaolin, an energy expert, said: "The present ''coal Shortage'' is due to high prices and high mining costs, as well as electricity's imbalanced market-oriented reform. Electrical power groups don't feel responsible to society. They only care about making huge profits, with an on-grid price of $.03 per kilowatt-hour and a high-transfer power cost." The Economic Observer reported that small plants might need to shut down due to heavy losses, but state-owned power groups should focus on their employees' livelihood, instead of making a profit. However, during this "power shortage," state-owned plants also shut down, affecting people's daily lives. According to the report, state-owned power plants, which have dominated the market for the past 10 years, have quickly expanded into nationalized monopolies. But civilians are still suffering. PetroChina is now complaining about petro prices being too low. The current "power shortage" is being intensified by state-owned plants and the CCP's collusion. Gan Shixuan (an expert from China Energy Net) said: "In a coal-based power system, if the imbalance between coal and electricity is significant, then reform must take place. At present, the price of coal is set by market value, while the price of electricity is controlled by the CCP. But what I see is that over 10 provinces will raise their price of electricity. Power usage in people's daily lives accounts for 10 percent of the total electricity used in China, while industries account for 90 percent of the electricity used." According to the Economic Observer, the current "power shortage" will cause inflation to rise. If the Development and Reform Commission (DRC) refuses to raise power prices, this "shortage" could worsen in the summer, during the peak season. Power will be cut for more and more industries, resulting in decreased production and higher commodity prices, which will indirectly cause inflation to rise. But if the DRC raises electricity prices, although the power plants will be less burdened, inflation is sure to rise. According to the report, if the CCP insists on fostering a market economy, then a drastic reform in the way state-owned businesses operate is needed. The U.S. has about 500 power grid companies and its electricity consumption, per capita, is five times higher than China. Yet, it never experiences shortages. This tells us that state-owned monopolies are not the only way to guarantee a nation's energy security. NTD reporters Zeng Yaoxian and Xue Li 《神韵》2011世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

In this series, I want to continue my education by digging deeper into the lives and careers of my guests to try and learn how they think. I want to understand the experiences that have shaped them, the failures they bounced back from, and the lessons that those failures have taught them. And I want to break down their success to find out what sets them apart. I'm not looking for trade ideas or guesses about an unknowable future, but rather knowledge, accumulated over the course of careers to try and make me a better investor. And I want to share those conversations with you. Several years ago, I was introduced to my guest today by mutual friends who'd entrusted a significant portion of their savings to. This man, they told me, invest in a way which is not only unlike the methods employed by 99% of money managers today, but also with an integrity and a methodology which is a throwback to a time which is sadly almost vanished. In the intervening period, as I've gotten to know my guest better, I spent a considerable amount of time trying to persuade him to sit down with me and share both his experience and his investment philosophy with the Real Vision audience. Sadly, each of my invitations has been met with a very polite, but very firm, no thank you. This was no surprise to me. My guest has never before been interviewed, either in writing or on camera, and for good reason. He's a private man who prefers to spend his time reading and thinking, who invests far from the spotlight, and with no care for either mainstream opinion or consensus strategies. A year ago, I finally got to meet my guest, and I spent an evening I will never forget listening to him talk about how he sees the world and how he thinks about the discipline of investing. That meeting made me more determined than ever to try and persuade him to break his silence and give others the chance to learn from him as I had done. Now, three years after I first approached him, he's very graciously agreed to talk to me in front of the Real Vision cameras. And so I'm excited to be traveling to the Swiss Alps to discover how his framework has evolved over the years and see how he looks at the process of investing that which he considers permanent, irreplaceable capital. So please join me for a conversation with Tony Deden. There are going to people that watch this who know you, and they're probably sitting there thinking, why the hell is Tony Deden doing it? And then they're going to people that don't know who, after this conversation, are going to go, why the hell do I not know Tony Deden? So I know this is the first time you've done one of these and I really appreciate the fact that you've agreed to do it, because there's so many things I want to talk to you about.
