Fix it guide - Action Man Mine detection set by Palitoy

This is a set I have had for a while that needs a bit of work. The Action Man Mine detection set from 1967 is often broken as it is made out of some fragile plastic and fairly weak parts. So in this video I get the set I have back up and working. Including replacing the battery compartment and wiring. China builds military infrastructures on large outposts in South China Sea

Contact [email protected] to license this or any News Direct video For story suggestions please contact [email protected] RESTRICTIONS: NONE China has apparently finished expanding its manmade island outposts in the South China Sea and has moved on to building military infractures on some of the larger islands, according to the Pentagon's annual assessment of military and security development of China. The report states that China is currently focused on outfitting its three largest outposts — Fiery Cross, Subi and Mischief Reefs in the Spratly Islands — with military infrastructures, including airfields with runways measuring at least 8,800 feet, water and fuel storage, port facilities, 24 fighter-sized hangars, communications facilities and barracks and administration buildings. Once the facilities are complete, China can house up to three regiments of fighter jets in the Spratly Islands. According to Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, the three air bases and another on Woody Island in the Paracels will give Chinese fighter jets the ability to operate over almost the entire South China Sea, as well as the radar surveillance coverage of almost the entire region from its facilities on the large and smaller outposts. Parts of the South China Sea is claimed by China, Brunei, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. The Hague international tribunal rejected China’s claims of historical ownership in the in the South China Sea last July. China, in response, has firmly rejected the ruling. RUNDOWN SHOWS: 1. Facilities being added onto the three islands 2. Regiments of fighter jets can be deployed to the islands once infrastructures complete 3. Three air bases in Spratlys and another in Parcels enables Chinese fighter jet to operate over the entire South China Sea 4. Radar surveillance coverage and fighter jet coverage in South China Sea VOICEOVER (in English): “China is outfitting its three largest outposts — Fiery Cross, Subi and Mischief Reefs in the Spratly Islands — with military infrastructure. This includes airfields with runways at least 8,800 feet long, water and fuel storage, port facilities, 24 fighter-sized hangars, communications facilities and barracks and administration buildings.” “Once the facilities are complete, China can house up to three regiments of fighter jets in the Spratly Islands.” “The three air bases and another on Woody Island in the Paracels will give Chinese fighter jets the ability to operate over almost the entire South China Sea.” “Meanwhile, China has also developed radar surveillance coverage of almost the entire region.” SOURCES: Defense One, Department of Defense, Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative http://www.defenseone.com/threats/2017/06/pentagon-beijing-arming-its-manmade-islands-south-china-sea/138458/ https://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/Documents/pubs/2017_China_Military_Power_Report.PDF?source=GovDelivery https://amti.csis.org/chinas-big-three-near-completion/ *** For story suggestions please contact [email protected] For technical and editorial support, please contact: Asia: +61 2 93 73 1841 Europe: +44 20 7542 7599 Americas and Latam: +1 800 738 8377 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. COMBAT DIVER INTEST

07:15
A frogman is someone who is trained in scuba diving or swimming underwater in a tactical capacity that includes police or military work. Such personnel are also known by the more formal names of combat diver, combatant diver, or combat swimmer. The word frogman first arose in the stage name The Fearless Frogman of Paul Boyton in the 1870s and later was claimed by John Spence, an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy, to have been applied to him while he was training in a green waterproof suit. The term frogman is occasionally used to refer to a civilian scuba diver. Some sport diving clubs include the word Frogmen in their names.[citation needed] The preferred term by scuba users is diver, but the frogman epithet persists in informal usage by non-divers, especially in the media and often referring to professional scuba divers, such as in a police diving role. In the U.S. military and intelligence community, divers trained in scuba or CCUBA who deploy for tactical assault missions are called "combat divers". This term is used to refer to the Navy SEALs, operatives of the CIA's Special Activities Division, elements of Marine Recon, Army Ranger Regimental Reconnaissance Company members, Army Special Forces divers, Air Force Pararescue, Air Force Combat Controllers, U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmers, United States Naval Search and Rescue Swimmers, United States Air Force Special Operations Weather Technicians, and the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units. In Britain, police divers have often been called "police frogmen". Some countries' tactical diver organizations include a translation of the word frogman in their official names, e.g., Denmark's Frømandskorpset; others call themselves "combat divers" or similar. Others call themselves by indefinite names such as "special group 13" and "special operations unit". Many nations and some irregular armed groups deploy or have deployed combat frogmen. Tactical diving is a branch of professional diving carried out by armed forces and tactical units. They may be divided into: Combat/assault divers. Special mission work divers (called Clearance Divers in the British Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy), who do general work underwater. Work divers who are trained in defusing mines and removing other explosives underwater. These groups may overlap, and the same men may serve as assault divers and work divers, such as the Australian Clearance Diving Branch (RAN). The range of operations performed by these operatives includes: Amphibious assault: stealthy deployment of land or boarding forces. The vast majority of combat swimmer missions are simply to get "from here to there" and arrive suitably equipped and in sufficient physical condition to fight on arrival. The deployment of tactical forces using the arrival by water to assault land targets, oil platforms, or surface ship targets (as in boardings for seizure of evidence) is a major driver behind the equipping and training of combat swimmers. The purposes are many, but include feint and deception, counter-drug, law enforcement, counter-terrorism, and counter-proliferation missions. Sabotage: This includes putting limpet mines on ships. Clandestine surveying: Surveying a beach before a troop landing, or other forms of unauthorized underwater surveying in denied waters. Clandestine underwater work, e.g.: Recovering underwater objects. Clandestine fitting of monitoring devices on submarine communications cables in enemy waters. Investigating unidentified divers, or a sonar echo that may be unidentified divers. Diving sea-police work may be included here. See anti-frogman techniques. Checking ships, boats, structures, and harbors for limpet mines and other sabotage; and ordinary routine maintenance in war conditions. If the inspection divers during this find attacking frogmen laying mines, this category may merge into the previous category. Underwater mine clearance and bomb disposal. Typically, a frogman with closed circuit oxygen rebreathing equipment will stay within a depth limit of 20 feet (6.1 m) with limited deeper excursions to a maximum of 50 feet (15 m) because of the risk of seizure due to acute oxygen toxicity. The use of nitrox or mixed gas rebreathers can extend this depth range considerably, but this may be beyond the scope of operations, depending on the unit.

We visit the site of the parachute packing sheds of the U.S. Army's 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, who were deployed in North Queensland during 1942/43. Featured finds over the two-day hunt include a beautiful 1947 Silver Florin (Two Shilling) coin, and a U.S. Army M-1936 pattern webbing buckle. Some 3,500 men of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, including the 501st Parachute Battalion and 'A' Company of the 504th Parachute Infantry Battalion, arrived in North Queensland in December 1942. After completion of training the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment embarked in August 1943, bound for Port Moresby. On the morning of 5 September the paratroopers were loaded into 82 C-47 transport aircraft assembled at eight airstrips in the Port Moresby area. Five aircraft carrying Australian gunners from the 2/4 Field Regiment accompanied the air armada over the Owen Stanley Range for the parachute assault on Japanese forces around Nadzab in the Markham River valley. They secured the Nadzab area for the construction of an airstrip from where the Australian 7th Division could be flown in to attack Lae from the landward side, while the 9th Division carried out an assault from the sea. Lae and Salamaua were taken by mid-September. Thanks for watching and please take the time to visit our blog www.nqexplorers.com

Starfish Walking on the Beach

01:27
Shortcut to get back to this video: WalkingStarfish.com It was early evening, probably around 6pm or so at low tide. We noticed there were starfish walking around on the sand near the water. Some were in tide pools but some were just strolling on the sand, very very very slowly. The ones that were on the sand we carefully relocated back to the ocean or a tide pool. Other people coming out to the beach were fascinated by the large amount of starfish and helped relocate the walkers to the water as well. This was shot on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (specifically Corolla, NC) in early October 2012. Almost the exact same spot on the beach that a WWII mine washed up in late September 2017 (https://outerbanksvoice.com/2017/09/25/unexploded-mines-wash-up-on-hatteras-and-corolla-beaches/) Also, to clear up the questions about the "foot" in the video. It's my son's foot and he was squatting down. He was 4 at the time of the video. Looks like a strange deformed thing but it's just a normal 4 year old's foot. Top 10 Most Unusual Military Bases Around The World

01:51
10. Thule Air Base: The Thule Air Base is the United States’ most northerly military installation, located deep within the Arctic Circle. It essentially acts as an early warning system, able to detect any intercontinental ballistic missiles that may arrive from enemies such as Russia. It also has a more modern purpose, in that it is used to monitor space traffic and detect any anomalies above the Earth’s atmosphere. 9. Pine Gap: Pine Gap is the name that is most commonly used for the military base that is officially known as the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap. Jointly operated by the United States and Australia, the facility offers various agencies, including the CIA and NSA, access to surveillance equipment to monitor for potential threats and to gather data to be used for carrying out drone strikes in the Eastern Hemisphere. Built in the middle of a desert, near Alice Springs. 8. Devil’s Tower Camp: Devil’s Tower Camp is a large military base in the British controlled Gibraltar. The territory has been under British control since 1713, and a regiment of soldiers has almost always been present to ensure that the U.K. does not lose an important strategic location. The current garrison of troops operates out of Devil’s Tower Camp (the base also has the facilities to train soldiers in a variety of distinct disciplines). 7. USAMRIID: The united States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases is a facility that sites in Fort Detrick, Maryland. It is a U.S. army base that is home to efforts at creating defense measures against biological warfare. The base holds samples of a number of diseases, such as anthrax and the plague, and has played an important role in developing vaccines that are used by the public. 6. Kwajalein Atoll: The Kwajalein Atoll military base is a Pacific island military complex, similar to the other bases located in the surrounding areas such as a Guam. However, it is significantly smaller than its neighbors. Made up of a collection of more than eleven islands leased from the Republic of the Marshall Island. 5. Duga-3: Duga-3 was a huge Russian radio antenna in Ukraine. The vast structure made up a significant part of the radar system used by the Soviet Union to detect incoming enemy attack in the form of missiles. It sent out incredibly powerful radio waves that could be heard around the world on various devices from the day it was turned on in 1976, as a regular knocking sound. 4. Cheyenne Mountain Nuclear Bunker: In reality, Cheyenne Mountain nuclear bunker was the original home of NORAD and the Air Force Space Command, and was designed to be able to detect any missile attack on the United States, as well as be able to withstand attacks from even the most sophisticated and powerful weapons.A skeleton crew of around 200 now operates the base in a standby mode. 3. Zeljava Airbase: The Zeljava Airbase is a large underground facility that sits along the borders between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was immensely costly to build and was one of the largest underground facilities in Europe, as well as being the biggest military airbase in the former Yugoslavia. 2. HAARP Research Station: The complex is home to the High Frequency Auroral Research Program that aims to use high-frequency radio-waves to interfere with the ionosphere, which can then be made to create an effect similar to the aurora borealis. The research team hopes that the technology will eventually help them to manipulate electrons, so they can communicate with deep sea submarines or even help transmit data with satellites. 1. Maunsell Forts: The Maunsell Forts are a collection of fortified towers that were built during World War II. Their purpose was to protect the United Kingdom from incoming air raids into the country, and to stop any German ships from attempting to lay mines into what was an essential shipping lane. While some of the towers were used by the army and others by the Navy, they were similar in design and were able to withstand attack from ships and aircraft. Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations - Under African Skies Episode 1 - Scenario Intro/Opening Moves

30:18
The Command Modern Air/Naval Operations WOTY playthrough of 'Under African Skies' begins! In this fictional scenario based around a state-sponsored act of terrorism against the USA, France, and UK in 2017, DrZaius takes command of the initial US and British response to degrade the ability of the former-Nigerian state to respond as a cohesive force while balancing the tenuous threat of the Nigerian-friendly Chinese forces in the area. This is a wonderfully crafted scenario that I've had a lot of fun watching and playing myself and if you'd like to try your own hand at it, here is the link to download the scenario from the Matrix Games forums: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3700311 ► Follow the Series Playlist Here • https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2NGeE0l2kcpq323-WKYRIrt8Lfa54Jag Thanks for watching this gameplay video! Every sensor and weapon system is modeled in meticulous detail. You are given the hardware; but you have to use it well. THE WORLD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Throw your distorted flat maps away – Command uses a realistic 3D earth globe for each of its scenarios. Rotate and zoom in and out of the action, from satellite view down to the trenches and wavetops. Play scenarios or build your own on any place on earth – from classics like the Middle East, South Atlantic, North Cape and Europe to new and rising hotspots like the Arctic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. Use a powerful yet intuitive point-and-click mouse interface for controlling your forces and go advanced with a wide collection of hotkeys for quickly jumping around the action and issuing complex orders in the heat of the battle. RELENTLESS REALISM Sensors and weapons work just like in real life, with all their strengths and weaknesses. Units move, detect, fight and win or die based on what their systems can and cannot do. Electronic warfare and technological levels can tilt the balance of battle. The weather can be your best ally and your worst enemy. The terrain, both overland and undersea, can hide you from the enemy but also can block your weapons from firing. Your aircraft can choose different mission profiles and loadouts, each with its advantages and limitations, and can dash high (speed, range) or scream low (protection). Thermal layers, convergence zones, surface ducting, the deep sound channel and factors such as water temperature and terrain slope may decide the sub vs ship duel. Thick clouds or rain can render your fancy laser-guided bombs useless. Stealth may help you avoid detection, or a jamming barrage may tip the scales when you are out of options. Command's battle environment is as unforgiving as the real thing – and as rewarding for those who understand and use it. AIR/NAVAL WARFARE AROUND THE WORLD Korea. Colonial wars. Vietnam. Middle East. Cuba. Falklands. Iran-Iraq. World War 3. Desert Storm. India & Pakistan. The Arctic circle. Past and future conflicts in the Pacific, Norwegian Sea, Russian periphery and more. Experience conflict from post-WW2 all the way to 2020+ and beyond. Test your mettle against lethal land-based missile batteries, air regiments, naval fleets or pirate groups. Face off against threats of the past, present and future. How do you measure up against the challenges of modern warfare? History Of Sudwala Caves Mpumalanga South Africa

24:02
History Of Sudwala Caves Mpumalanga South Africa History In the nineteenth century the Sudwala Caves were used by Somquba, the brother of the Swazi heir apparent, as a fortress. In a power struggle for the Swazi throne, many bloody battles were fought at the cave entrance. The story begins as follows: When King Sobhuza I of Swaziland died in 1836, his heir was Mswati II, who was still a minor and too young to ascend the vacant throne. A cousin, Paramount Chief Usutfu, was installed as regent, which proved to be a flawed choice. Usutfu was too weak to prevent Mswati’s brother Somquba from making an effective bid for the throne by calling an Incwala, or Festival of the First Fruit. The significance of this is that it is high treason, not to mention sacrilege, for any other person other than the Swazi king to hold an Incwala. After a skirmish with Mswati’s army near the Mgwenyana River, 9 km west of Barberton, Somquba and his followers fled the area, with some 500 head of Mswati’s cattle. They crossed the Crocodile River and settled near the Mankelexele Mountains, between Elandshoek and Schagen, about 10 km from what are now the Sudwala Caves. Their settlement was known as M’selezie. Somquba sought and received protection from the newly established Boer settlement of Lydenburg. He made a formal alliance with the (1856–57) Lydenburg Republic. There was continuous conflict between Mswati’s and Somquba’s followers in the form of raids and cattle theft. The Boers continued to side with Somquba, in return for labour to dig the first water canal at Lydenburg. Another benefit for the Boers was that Somquba acted as a buffer for them, against Mswati. During the early 1860s Somquba came to know of the Caves, and subsequently, in times of conflict, he and his followers would take refuge there, with their cattle. They stock-piled food and there was plenty of water, so it made a strong refuge. Somquba maintained observation posts, and always kept the cave entrance clear, so that he could retreat there in a hurry. At that time stage the cave mouth was much smaller, and could barely accommodate the long horns of his small herd of prized Nguni cattle, as they were led in by hand, in single file. The principal guardian of the Caves’ entrance was Sudwala, Somquba’s chief inDuna (councillor/captain), whose name is thus commemorated to this day, and whose spirit is legendarily said to linger in the Caves. Today nobody knows how many times Somquba took refuge inside the Caves, but many bloody battles were fought at the site. At one time, the ever-persistent regiments of Mswati built a massive bonfire at the entrance, while Somquba and his followers were inside, in an attempt to suffocate them, but the natural airflow in the Caves foiled this attack. Help was sent for and received from a Lydenburg Boer commando, led by one Abel Erasmus. The commando drove off Mswati’s regiments, and freed Somquba. Traces of the fire are still visible to this day. Somquba and his followers used the caves as refuge, until Somquba was killed in an unexpected attack. Survivors stayed on under the leadership of Sudwala, and that is how the caves got their name. During the Second Boer War, in 1900, the caves were used by the Boers to store ammunition for their 94-pounder Long Tom guns. It was thought that the caves may have been used by President Paul Kruger to store the legendary "Kruger Millions", gold bullion which reputedly disappeared somewhere between Waterval Onder and Nelspruit during Paul Kruger's flight from Pretoria to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique. In 1914 a company was formed to excavate huge amounts of bat guano; this was sold as fertilizer to farmers.

Why is JAPAN'S ARMY REARMING AGAIN? - KJ VIDS

15:53
The gradual but firm shift in Japan’s defence posture is among the most notable developments characterising the Asia-Pacific’s international dynamics in the past few years. Its efforts to increase its military power, accompanied by attempts to change the Constitution to expand the means and the duties of its military forces are to be interpreted in a broader context of growing security challenges. THE MEN AT THE CONTROLS Your war machines are (almost always) not robots; they are crewed by humans. People trained with varied proficiency (from novice to ace), operating under custom doctrine and rules of engagement (when to do what, how to decide, how to react etc.), most of the time making the rational decision, and sometimes making a brilliant call or a mistake. These people often matter far more than the hardware. The very same surface-to-air missile battery that is a worthless toy when staffed by Iraqi or Libyan crews turns to a deadly weapon even against ultra-modern aircraft under the expert hand of Egyptian, Serbian or Russian operators. The deadliest combat units are only as sharp as their crews. MINERS SON [ dancing on maggies grave ]

02:34
Original song about miners strike -- © t. hutton 2012 I'm the son of the son of a miners son Worked the face till the shift was done But No son of mine going down the mine A've spent ma days on the picket line We worked the seam we feared the damp Wie our pick n oor shovels and our davey lamp Cleared oor way wie prop and ram And we dinned on piece's wie cheese and jam She stole the jobs of honest men Broke there hearts wie a stroke o her pen And the scabs and lackeys o thachers plan Broke the picket o the N U M The day will come and the flags will wave We'll all be dancing on maggies grave Yes The day will come and the flags will wave We'll all be dancing on maggies grave © t. hutton 2012 Frances worked undersea coals from its cliff-top location. It was known locally as `The Dubbie¿ because of wet undergound conditions, and was taken over by the Fife Coal Company in 1923 and subsequently equipped with its own washery (for cleaning the coal subsequent to bringing to the surface), built by Simon Carves in 1925. Further redevelopment occurred in the 1930s, and in the 1940s, new headgear and a ground-mounted Robey & Metro Vickers electric 1,600hp winding engine were installed with minimum disruption to production. Underground locomotive haulage (electric Greenbat units) was introduced in 1957. Its washery was closed in 1965, coal being taken to Bowhill for treatment. Linked underground to Seafield by 1981, and drained latterly from unit retained at Michael , previously closed in 1967). Fires caused by spontaneous combustion broke out during the 1984 strike. Retained on care and maintenance basis after 1985, but planned `Frances Project' of 1990 never materialised, and the surface buildings were subsequently demolished with the exception of the headframe , which survives as a monument to the Fife coal industry. Seafield Pit, sunk to the west of Kirkcaldy near the shore to a depth of 1830 ft., was built with similar 'new look' structures to house the winding gear that had characterised the Rothes Colliery, near Thornton. The Seafield pit would take its coal from the vast deposits lying beneath the Firth of Forth. Seafield opened in 1954 and after a number of years of independent existence, it merged with the Frances Colliery, Dysart, in March, 1966. The pit employed close to 2000 miners and the last day of coal production was Friday 22 January, 1988. The colliery officially closed on Friday 17 March, 1988. Like so many Fife collieries, Seafield had its share of tragic events, the disaster on 10 May, 1973, being notable. The UK miners' strike was a major industrial action affecting the British coal industry. It was a defining moment in British industrial relations, and its defeat significantly weakened the British trade union movement. It was also seen as a major political victory for Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party. The strike became a symbolic struggle, since the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) was one of the strongest unions in the country, viewed by many, including Conservatives in power, as having brought down the Heath government in the union's 1974 strike. The later strike ended with the miners' defeat and the Thatcher government able to consolidate its fiscally conservative programme. The political power of the NUM was broken permanently. Ten deaths resulted from events around the strike: six picketers, three teenagers searching for coal, and a taxi driver taking a non-striking miner to work.

SriLankan ARMY captures LTTE terrorists base Kokkadicholai

04:46
SriLankan Army made further advances in the East and secured Kokkadicholai, one of LTTE's nerve centers, to the south of Batticaloa and Unnachchi under their control. Troops were able to catch a large haul of claymore mines, land mines, anti-personnel mines, improvised explosive devices, guns and other warlike items that had been hurriedly left behind by fleeing Tiger terrorists in the face of advancing troops.Troops now consolidating the surrounding areas came across an air-conditioned luxurious LTTE conference hall with most modern facilities, which was built in a secrecy and used as their main centre of activities. This huge LTTE conference hall that would have cost millions contains a spacious auditorium, air-conditioned bedrooms, electricity-run kitchen units, pantries, washrooms and other modern equipment. In the most recent past Tiger terrorists conducted media briefings in this building for both local and international media. An LTTE hideout for production of illicit liquor for distribution to the whole of Batticaloa district, near Kokkadicholai junction too fell into the hands of advancing troops. The liquor distribution has been a local money-spinner to the LTTE. Tiger terrorists used Kokkadicholai area to launch of artillery attacks, including the recent one on diplomats and Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe when they landed in Weber Stadium. Italian and US ambassadors received injuries in the attack. With the fall of Kokkadicholai, troops have regained the control in the areas to the south and west of Batticalos town and surrounding areas after driving terrorists off the area. Engineer troops of the Army in coordination with civil authorities are now busy repairing major infrastructure facilities in newly liberated areas including the restoration of damaged houses and public places.

The Mongols and the Changing Patterns of Indian Ocean Connections

01:16:05
In the thirteenth century, the expansion of Mongol forces under Genghis Khan and his descendants resulted in the formation of a vast Eurasian empire stretching from the Korean peninsula to central Europe. Despite the eventual fragmentation of this Mongol empire into four contending khanates, the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries witnessed unprecedented interactions between polities and societies across the Eurasian realm. Past studies highlighting these exchanges have primarily focused on the overland connections. This paper demonstrates that the formation of the Mongol empire also had a significant impact on the Indian Ocean world, and argues that new patterns of maritime exchanges emerged as a consequence of the connections between the Yuan empire in China, South Asia, and the Ilkhanate in Iran.
