For the full trail guide please visit: http://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/331-humbug-hill The Humbug Hill 4WD trail is a relatively easy combination of several old mining roads that traverses the Golden Horseshoe trail system. Humbug Hill (the hill, not the trail), looks down on the Swan River along Georgia Gulch and American Gulch, both of which were placer and dredge mined. The Golden Horseshoe is popular for hiking, running, horseback riding, and mountain biking, as well as dirt bikes, ATVs, and larger OHVs. Please be cautious and courteous! Stay the trail, and pack out more than you packed in. The Phoenix mine http://www.phoenixmine.com is operated by the oldest continuous gold mining family in Colorado; It's owned and operated by Al and Dave Mosch. It is a working gold mine where miners actually do the work. There has also been one funeral in the Phoenix Mine. One tourist's dying wish was to be buried in the mine. (Cigarettes killed him, not the mine). Al Mosch accommodated his wish. The family held a small funeral in the mine. "He doesn't take up much room" says Al. This mine was nice to visit and the people are genuinely friendly and very willing to show us around. If your near the Rocky Mountains and Idaho Springs, Colorado, stop by and pick up some history and free gold at the Phoenix mine. Thanks for watching. Dave

"Sunny Side" was the name of this golf course. Built in 1991, it was a public course in the middle of a neighborhood. There was some sort of contract between the golf course and the community allowing it to remain there for 22 years. According to sources (the grounds keeper) a old man was upset the golf course destroyed a forest and found a technicality in the contract causing them to shut down. Finally had a chance to hit the Arkansas River here in High Colorado with my Gold Cube on a friend's permitted claim.....for some hard fun. Wanted to get one day in with my Cube before winter hits. Awesome day! Sunny, light breeze, cool temps. Pitched a lot of rocks. Got some fine flood gold. Trip Report will be posted on my Gold Adventures web site Forum. Randy C-17A
