Coober Pedy Council Contract

06:53
This story was first broadcast on Channel Seven Adelaide - Today Tonight. This story looks into the complex energy supply contract that a rural South Australian council signed to keep its opal mining town ticking. Though some residents are questioning at what cost? For this story I was awarded a Silver award for Cinematography at the 2017 Australian Cinematography Society Awards SA/WA branch.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri 12 Things you need to know about controversial South African based Malawian

06:53
This video brings to you twelve things you need to know about the South African based Malawian Prophet. Prophet Shepherd Bushiri was a young lad when God appeared to him in a dream. He was ten years old at the time and did not know who this supernatural being was who stood before him. This was the beginning of his prophetic ministry, which numerous people have come to know and reap the benefits of all over the world. Born and raised in Malawi, Prophet Bushiri was raised in a Christian home and is a son of Huxley and Christina Bushiri who hails from Zambia, in Ndeke, Kitwe to be specific. His birth was mysterious and there were so many issues in relation to it such that after he was born, his mother called him Shepherd, acknowledging that the Lord is her Shepherd. Even so growing up as a committed Christian boy was considered outlandish by his peers at school. In a matter of fact, Prophet Bushiri said, children of the 21st Century think praying and living a godly life is for old tired people. His lifestyle which became a challenge to his class and school mates brought him ridicule. Despite not going to any School of Theology, Prophet Bushiri in 2010, started Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) in Malawi Lilongwe, a fast growing church with branches worldwide. Their church services are characterised by extraordinary prophecies, healings, and all manner of miracles. He also founded a Christian Television Station, Prophetic Channel which is on Free to Air and viewed by millions across the globe. He relocated to South Africa in Pretoria where he launched another ECG church, which grew to 35,000 members in a space of eight months. He is known as "Major One" in his church complex in the South African capital, Pretoria. During live broadcasts, shouts of Major One as he is commonly called, break out in the audience as people cry out for the attention of the Man of God. Sometimes, calls of Major One, do something ring out as the desperate audience present their numerous needs to the Prophet. He calls out people by their names, tells them their backgrounds, and gives them solutions to their problems as many shed tears in shock as to how someone who is a stranger to them can know so much about them. To others, Prophet Bushiri has prophesied their house numbers, colour of lounge suites, and has gone further to prophesy to single men and women how, when and where they would meet their life partners, and also the exact time they would meet. Prophet Bushiri is not only a man of the cloth who spends time prophesying but is also a business tycoon owning gold mines across Africa. The multi-millionaire is also President of African Christian Coalition for Israel Ltd (AFRICCI) an organisation which gives funding for projects and programmes to Governments and Institutions which can guarantee re-payment. Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has come a long way from his upbringing in Mzuzu, a city in northern Malawi. These days, he can fill sports stadiums with tens of thousands of his faithful followers - followers who are ready to travel globally to see him preach in person. He has regular visitors from the US, the UK and even Asia - today their flags fly proudly inside the jam-packed church hall at the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Ministries. According to bbc.com, his sanctuary is marked by a red-velvet rope and a red carpet lined by bodyguards on either side. Subscribe to this channel for this and more! Top 5 Smallest Countries in the World

03:57
5 – San Marino - 61 km² San Marino is a tiny country 61 square kilometers in size that is completely surrounded by Italy. It has a population of 32,000 people, one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt and more cars than people. It’s located two and half hours drive south of Venice near the coast of the Adriatic Sea. San Marino claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world. San Marino is also one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita. 4 – Tuvalu - 26 km² Tuvalu formerly know as Ellice Islands is located between Hawaii and Australia. It’s total land mass is 26 kilometers squared, when viewed from above is essentially the ring of a large underwater land mass that hasn’t quite breached the surface yet. Tuvalu has a population of 10,650 people which come from Polynesian descent. Most of the people live in Funafuti and the surrounding connected land to it. The traditional foods eaten in Tuvalu are pulaka, bananas, breadfruit, taro, coconut and seafood. Locals often catch flying fish on a boat with a spotlight and a butterfly net. 3 – Nauru - 21 km² Nauru is a tiny island off the coast of Australia being only 21 square kilometers in size. It is the smallest island nation in the world but not the smallest country. It was once one of the richest countries in the world back with the boom of Phosphate mining in the 1970’s. Most of the phosphate is gone now and since the country has struggled until Australia started up a detention camp on the island. The camp itself has created over 100 jobs as well as helping all the local businesses. Before the camps were setup the unemployment rate was around 90%. This was due to the country being so rich from mining that wealth was distributed and the people of Nauru no longer felt the need to work. This had an extra effect of people no longer, fishing or gardening and became very sedentary. Soon followed as the importation of western food which has lead to 97% of the population being overweight or obese. Now over 40% of the population suffers from type 2 diabetes. 2 – Monaco - 2 km² Monaco is an incredibly tiny country only 2 square kilometers in size located on the south western tip of France. It is bordered on 3 sides by france and 1 side by the Ligurian sea. Monaco is known for 2 things really, first gambling. There are 5 casinos in Monaco, 3 of which have been featured in 3 different James Bond movies. Secondly Monaco is known for the annual Monaco Grand Prix race which runs through the narrow streets with tight turns at high speeds. Most of Monaco’s 36,000 residents are millionaires and billionaires with only 1/5th the population actually born there. Monaco is a constitutional monarchy dating back to the 1300s. It is run by the Grimaldi family, the oldest ruling house in Europe. 1 – Vatican - 0.44 km² The Vatican is the smallest country in the world at only 0.44 square kilometers. Located in the city of Rome, the Vatican is known for having the largest church in the world, St. Peter’s Basilica. The Vatican also has the smallest population of any country in the world at 842 people. That includes over 100 swiss guards, cardinals, clergy and one nun. The bulk of the population live abroad in diplomatic positions around the world. The swiss guard, you know those guys in fully looking jester outfits, were hired in 1506 to protect the pope and has been this way ever since. Benito Mussolini signed the papers in 1929 allowing the Vatican to be it’s own country. Along with it’s freedom they were given 92 million dollars (around 1 billion dollars today). The Vatican GPD ranks 18th richest in the world which primarily comes from donations from Catholic churches, souvenirs, stamps, collectables and museum tour fees. Poland's Most Artistic City?

05:37
In 2017 I sold my stuff and bought a one-way ticket to travel the world with my boyfriend, Marc. SUBSCRIBE to come along for the adventure by clicking here: http://bit.ly/SubscribeEileenAldis See my other videos from Poland: http://bit.ly/2outoBy OTHER VIDEOS IN WROCLAW, POLAND: What I Ate In Poland: http://bit.ly/2BiMLBk How Much Does It Cost To Stay In Poland: http://bit.ly/2nGjyeS Wroclaw Christmas Market: http://bit.ly/2zaLpHP Tickets for Panorama Racławicka: http://bit.ly/2EXscgh I love art and culture and, especially when I travel, it's something I always want to see and soak up. I found lots of it in Wroclaw, Poland and discovered it was even named the European Capital of Culture in 2016. It's easy to see why when you're walking around because there's beauty, art, and history all around you. Ground zero for any trip to Wroclaw is the Rynek or Market Square in the centre of town. The square dates back to the thirteenth century and is lined with colourful buildings. In the Rynek, and all around the city, you'll notice little dwarves no more than a foot high. There are more than four hundred of them around Wroclaw and they represent more than just charming public art. Dwarves were the symbol of the Orange Alternative, an anti-Soviet movement that began in Wroclaw to protest Poland's Communist regime. In protest, Communist propaganda was defaced with images of dwarves to show how absurd it all was and to encourage people not to be afraid. Now you'll see dwarves all over the city in various forms including sculptures and other street art like graffiti. One of my favourite art works in Wroclaw is an installation called Transition found on two opposing street corners. It symbolizes the period of martial law in Poland from 1981 to 1983. You see seven human figures descending into the sidewalk and disappearing which represents how martial law drove people underground in fear. On the other side of the street, seven figures reemerge which symbolizes how people came out of hiding when that oppressive period ended in 1983. It really made an impression on me. The crown jewel of Wroclaw's art scene is the Panorama Racławicka, a 360 degree painting that depicts a battle for Polish independence in 1794. It's 15 metres high and 114 metres around which really brings the history to life in a way only art can. If you're in the mood for love then head to Tumski Bridge also known as Lovers Bridge. It's a popular spot for couples who leave a lock to symbolize their love and throw the key in the river. The bridge leads to Cathedral Island which is the oldest part of Wroclaw and a very pretty area to walk around. Keep an eye out for the city's lamplighter - yes, an actual lamplighter! - who walks the cobblestone streets each day at dusk to light the gas lanterns. I've never seen that before and it made me feel like I was travelling back in time. Absolutely charming. The Market Hall is nearby Cathedral Island and there you can get some food or souvenirs or shop with locals for fresh groceries. My favourite part there are the giant concrete arches that feel very imposing. Overall I loved visiting Wroclaw and feel like it might be the most artistic city in Poland. What its like living underground - Coober Pedy. Ep.28

10:21
The decision was made to abandon the Oodnadatta track and head straight to Coober Pedy to get it fixed 🔧. We made it to Coober Pedy fine, which was a relief. Kurt got the part ordered and all fixed within a few days, which was great. We decided to make the most of our time in Coober Pedy while there and see all the sights. We splashed out and did a tour with Oasis Tourist Park. $45 each for 3 hours, which included an underground mine tour 👷🏻‍♀️👷🏻and chauffeured around to see all the sights. Since it was out of the busy period, everywhere was quiet – which turned out great! We were the only ones on our tour so we got the VIP treatment. One afternoon, we drove out to ‘The Breakaways’ and watched the sunset 🌄 – it was incredible! Highly recommend seeing them at that time. On the drive out, we also stopped in at Dingo Fence Info board – the fence runs through 3 states! The highlights for us were the breakaways, kangaroo orphanage 🍼 & the quirky random stuff* all through the town. Overall Coober Pedy was okay, we wouldn’t say we were disappointed, it’s just, I think we both had different ideas in our heads on what to expect and it wasn't what we had imagined. This is really something very very special and although Marly didn't get to see these exact events, he saw many of them and was taken onboard an Agi and around the Agi site which is something no tourist is allowed to do - Marly received very special treatment, including a special gift of this sequence of photos from Justine, from The Opal Bin, a professional photographer before coming to The Ridge. Justine kindly gave me these photos because she, like so many others, fell in love with Marly. www.marlystravels.com

Internet Scamming in Ghana

20:31
Fraudsters in Ghana show us how they use internet scams to steal thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims all over the globe. -- While Nigeria's 401 scammers may have written the book on West African internet fraud, their shtick looks like Compuserve compared to what's going on in Ghana. Unsatisfied with the meager winnings from emailing thousands of random Westerners in hopes of convincing one poor sap they're the treasurer of the Ivory Coast, Ghana's scammers decided to stack the odds in their favor the old-fashioned way—witchcraft. Taking a page from cyberpunk, traditional West African Juju priests adapted their services to the needs of the information age and started leading down-on-their-luck internet scammers through strange and costly rituals designed to increase their powers of persuasion and make their emails irresistible to greedy Americans. And so "Sakawa" was born. Now not only is Sakawa Ghana's most popular youth activity and one of its biggest underground economies, it's a full-blown national phenomenon. Sakawa has its own tunes, clothing brands, Sakawasploitation flicks, and even a metastatic backlash from Christian preachers and the press. When we were in Accra over the summer it was impossible to walk more than 10 feet without seeing the word Sakawa in blood-red Misfits letters on a poster or tabloid, often accompanied by bone-chilling horrors of the photoshopped variety. The government is freaked out because Sakawa is threatening Ghana's business reputation, the Christians are freaked out because they're losing money to the Juju priests, the press is freaked out because being freaked out is what sells papers, and the public is freaked out because their government, preacher, and media are all telling them they should be. All the while the Sakawa boys are living the high life and racking up debts to the spirit world, just waiting for the axe to fall. যেসব জায়গায় এখনো সোনা পাওয়া যায়। The Place Gold Can be Found.

02:02
Gold is a chemical element with symbol Au (from Latin: aurum) and atomic number 79, making it one of the higher atomic number elements that occur naturally. In its purest form, it is a bright, slightly reddish yellow, dense, soft, malleable, and ductile metal. Chemically, gold is a transition metal and a group 11 element. It is one of the least reactive chemical elements and is solid under standard conditions. Gold often occurs in free elemental (native) form, as nuggets or grains, in rocks, in veins, and in alluvial deposits. It occurs in a solid solution series with the native element silver (as electrum) and also naturally alloyed with copper and palladium. Less commonly, it occurs in minerals as gold compounds, often with tellurium (gold tellurides). Gold is resistant to most acids, though it does dissolve in aqua regia, a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid, which forms a soluble tetrachloroaurate anion. Gold is insoluble in nitric acid, which dissolves silver and base metals, a property that has long been used to refine gold and to confirm the presence of gold in metallic objects, giving rise to the term acid test. Gold also dissolves in alkaline solutions of cyanide, which are used in mining and electroplating. Gold dissolves in mercury, forming amalgam alloys, but this is not a chemical reaction. It is impossible to know the exact date that humans first began to mine gold, but some of the oldest known gold artifacts were found in the Varna Necropolis in Bulgaria. The graves of the necropolis were built between 4700 and 4200 BC, indicating that gold mining could be at least 7000 years old.[2] A group of German and Georgian archaeologists claims the Sakdrisi site in southern Georgia, dating to the 3rd or 4th millennium BC, may be the world's oldest known gold mine.[3] Bronze age gold objects are plentiful, especially in Ireland and Spain, and there are several well known possible sources. Romans used hydraulic mining methods, such as hushing and ground sluicing on a large scale to extract gold from extensive alluvial (loose sediment) deposits, such as those at Las Medulas. Mining was under the control of the state but the mines may have been leased to civilian contractors some time later. The gold served as the primary medium of exchange within the empire, and was an important motive in the Roman invasion of Britain by Claudius in the first century AD, although there is only one known Roman gold mine at Dolaucothi in west Wales. Gold was a prime motivation for the campaign in Dacia when the Romans invaded Transylvania in what is now modern Romania in the second century AD. The legions were led by the emperor Trajan, and their exploits are shown on Trajan's Column in Rome and the several reproductions of the column elsewhere (such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London).[4] Under the Eastern Roman Empire Emperor Justinian's rule, gold was mined in the Balkans, Anatolia, Armenia, Egypt, and Nubia.[5] In the area of the Kolar Gold Fields in Bangarpet Taluk, Kolar District of Karnataka state, India, gold was first mined prior to the 2nd and 3rd century AD by digging small pits. (Golden objects found in Harappa and Mohenjo-daro have been traced to Kolar through the analysis of impurities — the impurities include 11% silver concentration, found only in KGF ore.[citation needed]) The Champion reef at the Kolar gold fields was mined to a depth of 50 metres (160 ft) during the Gupta period in the fifth century AD. During the Chola period in the 9th and 10th century AD, the scale of the operation grew.[citation needed] The metal continued to be mined by the eleventh century kings of South India, the Vijayanagara Empire from 1336 to 1560, and later by Tipu Sultan, the king of Mysore state and the British. It is estimated that the total gold production in Karnataka to date is 1000 tons.[6] The mining of the Hungarian deposit (present-day Slovakia) primarily around Kremnica was the largest of the Medieval period in Europe. #সোনারখনি #goldrush

SIMON MANN - THE MERCENARY - Part 1/2 | London Real FULL FREE EPISODE: https://londonreal.tv/simon-mann/ SUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToLondonReal Simon Francis Mann (born 26 June 1952) is a British mercenary and former British Army officer. He served part of a 34-year prison sentence in Equatorial Guinea for his role in a failed coup d'état in 2004, before receiving a presidential pardon on humanitarian grounds on 2 November 2009. Mann was extradited from Zimbabwe to Equatorial Guinea on 1 February 2008, having been accused of planning a coup d'état to overthrow the government by leading a mercenary force into the capital Malabo in an effort to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Charges in South Africa of aiding a coup in a foreign country were dropped on 23 February 2007, but the charges remained in Equatorial Guinea, where he had been convicted in absentia in November 2004. He lost an extradition hearing to Equatorial Guinea after serving three years of a four-year prison sentence in Zimbabwe for the same crimes and being released early on good behaviour. Upon Mann's arrival in Equatorial Guinea for his trial in Malabo, public Prosecutor Jose Olo Obono said that Mann would face three charges – crimes against the head of state, crimes against the government, and crimes against the peace and independence of the state. Top 10 largest cities of BRAZIL

01:11
Country in South America Brazil, a vast South American country, stretches from the Amazon Basin in the north to vineyards and massive Iguaçu Falls in the south. Rio de Janeiro, symbolized by its 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado, is famed for its busy Copacabana and Ipanema beaches as well as its enormous, raucous Carnaval festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes, and samba music and dance. top 10 largest cities of brazil list 10. Porto Alegre - Population: 1,472,482 Metropolitan population: approx. 4.4 million State: Rio Grande do Sul Founded: 26 March 1772 Area: 497 km2 / 192 sq mi. Porto Alegre is located at the banks of an estuary of Lagoa dos Patos, the largest lagoon in Brazil. Despite being the capital of ‘gauchos’ state Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre is surprisingly cosmopolitan. With over 190 species of tree, the ‘Happy Port’ is also the greenest state capital of the country. 9. Recife - Population: 1,608,488 Metropolitan population: approx. 4.1 million State: Pernambuco Founded: 12 March 1573 Area: 218 km2 / 84 sq mi. Recife, the ‘Venice of Brasil’ is probably the most complete destination of all the large cities in Brazil. The city of Recife has an interesting history, which can be marvelled at in the Old Town and of course in neighbouring World Heritage Area tagged Olinda... 8. Curitiba - Population: 1,864,416 Metropolitan population: approx. 3.2 million State: Paraná Founded: 29 March 1693 Area: 431 km2 / 166 sq mi Usually overlooked by tourists, Curitiba is a well designed city, originally build in the cattle and coffee heyday. Today Curitiba, the capital of Parana state, has less pollution and never-ending traffic jams than other Brazilian cities... Learn more About Curitiba... 7. Manaus - Population: 2,020,301 Metropolitan population: approx. 2.1 million State: Amazonas Founded: 24 October 1669 Area: 11,401 km2 / 4,402 sq mi. There are few other cities more captivating the minds of adventure travellers than Manaus, ‘Paris of the Jungle’. This legendary city, right in the very heart of the Amazon, became rich in a few decades during the rubber boom, at the turn of the 19th/ 20th century. 6. Belo Horizonte - Population: 2,491,109 Metropolitan population: approx. 5.5 million State: Minas Gerais Founded: 12 December 1897 Area: 331 km2 / 128 sq mi. In many ways Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais (‘General Mines’), feels like a mini Sao Paulo. 'Mini' is of course a relative term, because the metropolitan population of Belo Horizonte is still the 3rd largest in Brazil... 5. Fortaleza - Population: 2,571,896 Metropolitan population: approx. 3.6 million State: Ceará Founded: 13 April 1726 Area: 314 km2 / 121 sq mi. Life’s a beach...! Well, at least while visiting Brazil’s north coast and in particular the floundering metropolis of Fortaleza. Considering the harsh conditions of the sertão – the vast barren hinterlands of the Atlantic coast – the position of such a large city as Fortaleza is surprising to say the least.. 4. Brasilia - Population: 2,852,372 Metropolitan population: approx. 3.7 million State: Distrito Federal Founded: 21 April 1960 Area: 5802 km2 / 2240 sq mi. It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s… Brasilia! Welcome to one of the world’s most famous and notorious cities for being entirely designed at the drawing table. Brasilia, the capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil has been unremittingly controversial from the inauguration in 1960 until today... 3. Salvador - Population: 2,902,927 Metropolitan population: approx. 3.6 million State: Bahia Founded: 29 March 1549 Area: 706 km2 / 273 sq mi. If Sao Paulo is the head (and hands!) and Rio de Janeiro the heart, then Salvador can be considered very much as the soul of Brazil. Over two centuries, from 1549 and 1763 to be exact, the city of Salvador was the administrative and political centre of colonial Brasil... Learn more About Salvador.. 2. Rio de Janeiro Population: 6,453,682 Metropolitan population: approx. 12.4 million State: Rio de Janeiro Founded: 1 March 1565 Area: 1260 km2 / 487 sq mi. According to many Brazilians, the city of Rio de Janeiro was made by God himself... Indeed, its setting is incredibly pretty. Facing a beautiful bay, massive lumps of granite covered in lush forest sticking out of the landscape, a coastline dotted with lovely beaches: Rio de Janeiro is a true Marvellous City... 1. Sao Paulo - Population: 11,895,893 Metropolitan population: approx. 20 million State: Sao Paulo Founded: 25 January 1554 Area: 1523 km2 / 588 sq mi. Thinking of the Star Wars movie saga: Sao Paulo is ‘Coruscant made brick’... Like the fictitious planet entirely covered by a metropolis, from anywhere in central Sao Paulo you will see an urban panorama of tower blocks. In every direction until the horizon. thanks for watching plz subcribe my channel

Russian Geography Lesson 06 - Казань

03:01
FULL LESSON: http://www.ruskyed.com/GEO/geo06a.html TRANSCRIPT: ----- LESSON SIX: Rusky Ed here with another monthly installment in this series about the geography of Russia. The lesson will soon begin, but first we have the intro song! This lesson features six cities scattered around throughout Russia beginning with: Мурманск (Murmansk) - Administrative center of the Murmansk Oblast, located in Kola Bay, otherwise known as Кольский залив with залив, of course, meaning bay or gulf. Second on this list of Russian cities we have: Казань (Kazan) - Capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan (Республика Татарстан). With a population of over one million people, it’s the eighth largest city in Russia. Getting to the third city on the list now we have: Магнитогорск (Magnitogorsk) - A city of about 400,000 located just east of the south end of the Ural Range near a mountain of almost pure iron called Magnitnaya Mountain. Moving along, the fourth city would just happen to be: Барнаул (Barnaul) - A city of about 600,000 located along the Ob River and it is the administrative center of the Altai Krai (Алтайский край). At spot number five is: Ангарск (Angarsk) - A city of about 230,000 located just 51 kilometers west of Irkutsk. And finally we have: Палана (Palana) - Town located on the Kamchatka Peninsula (полуостров Камчатка) and is the administrative center for the Koryak Okrug (Корякский округ). And now for a couple sample sentences featuring a couple of the items on this list: Ангарск находится всего в пятидесяти одного километрах к западу от Иркутска. (Angarsk is just fifty-one kilometers west of Irkutsk.) Магнитная гора почти чистое железо. (Magnitnaya Mountain is almost pure iron.) Next up we have a few review words. Six to be exact. Including: волос - hair ветер - wind растрепать - mess up, disarrange когда - when поднять - to raise, to increase уйти - to leave, to depart BTW, the word причёска means haircut or hairdo. And now for a couple sample sentences containing these review words: Ветер растрепал её волосы. (The wind messed up her hair.) Она ушла, когда поднялся ветер. (She left when it became too windy.) And that’s it for this lesson. Rusky Ed signing out now...

13:02
Over the last century or so, our world has become a pretty darn big place. Between 1980 and 2014, the World Health Organization estimates global obesity doubled. In the US alone, more than two thirds of all adults are considered overweight, with one third considered obese (33%). That’s gotta be a world leader, right? Well, believe it or not, America doesn’t even break the top 10 countries on the obesity scale. It sits at 16th, between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. That’s right. There are at least fifteen countries with bigger waistlines than in the US. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Foreigners Fighting ISIS in Syria: The War of Others

31:53
Denis Cuspert, aka Deso Dogg, is a German who joined the Islamic State. He's become a household name for many. However, in this war – in which Germany has been directly supplying weapons to the Peschmerga forces since the attacks on Paris and is more than indirectly involved with Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and other Gulf states – hardly anyone is talking about the German civilians in northern Syria that are fighting terror militias. While the German government sends its Tornado jets to Syria without a mandate under international law, we discovered German civilians, as well as other international volunteers fighting with and assisting Kurdish commandos. With AK-47s in hand, they are trying to halt the advance of the Islamic State and set up their own in its place. They’re trying to promote a societal model in which there’s no death penalty, men and women have equal right, freedom of religion exists. The far-left scene in Germany sees this as the most important leftist political project in the world and has therefore pledged its support. VICE journalist, Sebastian Weiss, met up with a German ex-soldier and former Foreign Legionnaire, a 19-year-old Canadian fighter, a mother of four from Poland, an ICOR brigade member, German social workers and a 25-year-old from Saarbrücken, who are deployed under the command of the People’s Protection Units, directly on the front and only 50 kilometers from the IS stronghold, Raqqah.
