Greek handwriting alternates — lowercase

10:00
In this video I show every Greek lowercase letterform I encountered during my stay in Greece and my research afterwards back at home. Since it's hard to find online any alphabet that's not in a table, here's one: αβγδεζηθικλμνξοπρσ(ς)τυφχψω ΑΒΓΔΕΖΗΘΙΚΛΜΝΞΟΠΡΣΤΥΦΧΨΩ As you can see, some of the alternates actually have separate Unicode codepoints (ϐ ϵ ϑ ϰ ϖ ϱ ϕ ϴ ϒ): Α α alpha Β β ϐ beta Γ γ gamma Δ δ delta Ε ε ϵ epsilon Ζ ζ zeta Η η eta Θ ϴ θ ϑ theta Ι ι iota Κ κ ϰ kappa Λ λ lambda Μ μ mu Ν ν nu Ξ ξ xi Ο ο omicron Π π ϖ pi Ρ ρ ϱ rho Σ σ ς sigma Τ τ tau Υ ϒ υ upsilon Φ φ ϕ phi Χ χ chi Ψ ψ psi Ω ω omega Still, using them to stylize text is not usually a good idea. OpenType fonts utilize the alternates in a more efficient way by substituting glyphs with no codepoint that are seen in searches as the original codepoint and switch back to the original too if you change the font. If you have MS Office, try toying with the font Gabriola (go to Font and look for Stylistic Sets - ss01 includes the alternate beta ϐ and phi ϕ, stylistic alternates swaps theta ϑ for θ, and alternative rho ϱ is also somewhere, though I don't know how to reach it in Word). Another OpenType savvy font is Cambria.

Delta Sigma Theta Sweetheart Song

01:59
The Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sweetheart Song At the end of every semester students graduate from every university looking towards the next step in their lives. Members of Greek fraternities and sororities, before saying their final farewells to the campus, set out a final march to signify the end of an era at their respective school. At the University of Alabama this final step has become an iconic gesture on the steps of Coleman Coliseum. It's only fitting it's captured for posterity. Delta 101: What Every Delta Interest Should Know

00:29
What every Delta Interest should definitely know! Music by http: www.pacdv.com/sounds/ More info about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc: Delta Sigma Theta (ΔΣΘ; sometimes abbreviated Deltas or DST) is a not-for profit Greek-lettered sorority of college-educated women dedicated to public service with an emphasis on programs that target the African American community. Delta Sigma Theta was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Membership is open to any woman who meets the requirements, regardless of religion, race, or nationality. Women may join through undergraduate chapters at a college or university, or through an alumnae chapter after earning a college degree. With a sisterhood of more than 300,000 initiated members who are predominantly black college-educated women, the sorority currently has over 940 chapters located in the Bahamas, Bermuda, England, Germany, Jamaica, Japan, Liberia, South Korea, and the United States. Delta Sigma Theta is a member of multiple umbrella organizations, including the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) – an organization of nine international Greek-letter sororities and fraternities – as well as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). The current 26th national president is Dr. Beverly Evans Smith. The first public act of Delta Sigma Theta was participating in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., on March 3, 1913. Today, it is the largest African-American Greek-lettered organization. Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has created programming to improve political, education, and social and economic conditions, particularly within black communities. In addition to establishing independent programming, the sorority consistently collaborates with community organizations and corporations to further its programming goals. The organization celebrated its centennial year by being the first black Greek-lettered organization to participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA on January 1, 2013 with a float entitled "Transforming Communities through Sisterhood and Service." On January 13, 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded by 22 Howard University undergraduate students who had earlier been initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Seven of them were the elected officers of Alpha Kappa Alpha: Myra Davis Hemmings, president; Ethel Cuff Black, vice-president; Edith Motte Young, secretary; Jessie McGuire Dent, corresponding secretary; Winona Cargile Alexander, custodian; Frederica Chase Dodd, sergeant-at-arms; and Pauline Oberdorfer Minor, treasurer. The 22 were dismayed at the lack of progress of Alpha Kappa Alpha to move beyond its function of orchestrating the affairs of campus society at Howard and wanted to reorganize the sorority to address higher purposes, like public service and women's advancement. The new initiates wanted to establish a national organization, enlarge the scope of the sorority's activities, and change its name to reflect a true purpose. They felt Alpha Kappa Alpha was solely a female derivative of the Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity with no individual meaning and were not "Greek distinctive" letters. They also wanted to change the symbols, change the sorority colors, and be more politically oriented. In 1912, these 22 undergraduates voted to change the organization's name to Delta Sigma Theta. This new name was to reflect the group's desire to change the direction of the group[5] and change in the philosophical underpinnings. The 22 undergraduate Alpha Chapter students sought to move towards social activism and greater public service, rather than continue to focus on social activities.[6] According to Delta Sigma Theta's historian Paula Giddings, the 22 young women were concerned that since Alpha Kappa Alpha was not incorporated, there was no "legal entity". Since there was no charter, there was no authority to form other chapters, thus limiting their ability to enlarge the scope of activity."The undergraduate members push to establish a national organization, to engage in activities that were national in scope, to change the sorority's name and symbols as well as to be more politically oriented[7] caused conflict between one alumnae member who wished to keep the previous name and functional status quo, and the remaining collegiate Alpha Chapter members who voted to change the name of Alpha Kappa Alpha to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.[6] When the graduate member, Nellie Quander, heard about the 22 students desire to change the sorority's name, colors and constitution, she disagreed and gave the students a deadline to stop the efforts to reorganize the sorority.[8] The 22 declined and unanimously voted to reorganize, even prior to Delta Sigma Theta being approved by the Howard University administration (Info above sourced from Wikipedia)

2018 Camille Armstrong Step Show

00:33
Feb 3, 2018- The Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show was established to honor the dreams and aspirations of Ms. Camille Yvette Armstrong. In 1986, only a few weeks prior to graduation, Camille was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. As an outstanding student leader involved in multiple organizations, her death affected the entire UAB community. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., served as a UAB Ambassador, and was best described as "a hardworking, dedicated student." To preserve the memory of her dedicated service and love for UAB, a scholarship was established in her honor and is presented each year in her name. Student leaders work dutifully to recruit the best NPHC step teams from the southeastern region of the US, and the event continues to be one of the largest step shows in the state of Alabama. All proceeds fund the scholarship founded in her honor as well as the Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show for the upcoming year, in order to continue to bring awareness to and promotion of the scholarship.

Spiked Fruit: I Heart My Big

One will note that the song really only consists of two licks, the same progression in D minor and G minor. Thus Dryden declared it "I Heart My Big," in tribute to the lovely ladies of Delta Gamma. From left to right Dan "Danarchy" Dryden: Bass David T. "Melon" Melnekoff: Guitars Devon Van Noble: Drums Doug "Sunshine" Hendler: Guitars Youtube is lame and won't let me use the less than symbol in the video title or description. Failure. The title of the song is supposed to be the pictoral less-than/3 combination.

ZBT Fraternity suing group linked to hazing deaths for using its name

02:12
ALBANY -- Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity is suing a group of University of Albany students connected with a 2014 hazing death, saying the group was never recognized as a chapter of the fraternity. According to a fraternity statement, the group is not recognized by either the fraternity or the university. The group claimed to be a part of the Epsilon Gamma chapter, which is recognized by the national fraternity and by the university. Zeta Beta Tau is retaining counsel for the purpose of bringing a lawsuit against the individuals, claiming they falsely represented themselves, deceiving the public and damaging the fraternity's otherwise exceptional reputation. According to the national fraternity, the name Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, ZBT, its symbols, slogans and materials are all protected by copyright. Unauthorized use leaves the rogue group subject to legal action, fraternity officials said. Zeta Beta Tau was founded in 1898 in New York City, as the world's first Jewish fraternity. It has chapters on more than 90 campuses across North America, and has more than 130,000 undergraduate and alumni brothers worldwide. Attorney Paul DerOhannesian is representing Joseph Angilletta, one of the students accused in connection to Duffy's death. "Clearly one aspect here is they seem to want to distance themselves from this tragic event," DerOhannesian said. He said CBS 6 informed him of the new lawsuit against Angilletta and wasn't ready to state his client's case in regard to the new allegations. "It's certainly different, it's certainly novel and I'm not sure why they'd take that step," DerOhannesian said.

A Serious Matter - Part 5 - Membership: You CANNOT Serve God and AKA

12:04
Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Or AKA for that matter. Continuing my series on AKA and the Idolatry of Sorority Membership. In part 5 I talk about my early days in membership in AKA and how hard a taskmaster it was to serve. I also talk more about the reverence of Greek letters and the colors associated with the organizations. In addition to this, I also talk about how those interested in membership in AKA often idolized me and gave me special privileges because they wanted membership so badly into AKA. These videos are for Christians who are Greek, aspiring members ESPECIALLY young people to show them the REAL IDOLATRY and evils which go on in these organizations. Bear with me as I give you background as to why I have come to the conclusion that membership in these orgs can lead to idolatry. The goal here is not to condemn members of AKA or any sorority or fraternity, it is just to use my testimony to maybe help someone see what I now see about my membership. I know that these orgs have many people who join for many reasons. I don't know why you joined if you did, or if you allowed yourself to be hazed, or hazed people like I did, I can only speak for me, but in the same turn I know I speak for many. Alpha Phi Alpha (ΑΦΑ) is the first Inter-Collegiate Black Greek Letter fraternity. It was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Its founders are known as the "Seven Jewels". Alpha Phi Alpha developed a model that was used by the many Black Greek Letter Organizations (BLGOs) that soon followed in its footsteps. It employs an icon from Ancient Egypt, the Great Sphinx of Giza as its symbol, and its motto is manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind. Its archives are preserved at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. Omega Psi Phi (ΩΨΦ) is a fraternity and is the first African-American national fraternal organization to be founded at a historically black college. Omega Psi Phi was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C.. The founders were three Howard University juniors, Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman, and their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just. Each of the founders graduated and went on to have distinguished careers in their chosen fields: Bishop Edgar Amos Love became Bishop of the United Methodist Church; Dr. Oscar James Cooper became a prominent physician, who practiced in Philadelphia for over 50 years; Professor Frank Coleman became the Chairman of the Department of Physics at Howard University for many years; and Dr. Ernest E. Just became a world-renowned biologist. On November 23, 1911 in Thirkield Hall, Love became the first Grand Basileus (National President). Cooper and Coleman were selected to be the Grandkeeper of the Records (National Secretary) and Grandkeeper of Seals (National Treasurer), respectively. Eleven Howard University undergraduate men were selected to be the charter members. The fraternity has worked to build a strong and effective force of men dedicated to its Cardinal Principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. In 1927, at the urging of fraternity member Carter G. Woodson, the fraternity made National Negro Achievement Week an annual observance and it continues today as Black History Month. Since 1945, the fraternity has undertaken a National Social Action Program to meet the needs of African Americans in the areas of health, housing, civil rights, and education. Omega Psi Phi has been a patron of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) since 1955, providing an annual gift of $50,000 to the program. Omega Psi Phi is a National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) member. Phi Beta Sigma (ΦΒΣ) is a predominantly African-American fraternity which was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would exemplify the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service. The fraternity is the only one of its kind to aid in the creation and hold a constitutional bond with a predominantly African-American sorority, Zeta Phi Beta (ΖΦΒ). The sorority was founded on January 16, 1920 in Washington, D.C. The fraternity expanded when second and third chapters were chartered at Wiley College and Morgan State College in 1915. Today, the fraternity serves through a membership of more than 150,000 men in over 650 chapters in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Although Phi Beta Sigma is considered a predominantly African-American Fraternity, membership also consists of college-educated men of African, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American and Asian descent. Men may join through collegiate chapters at a college or university, or through a graduate chapter with at least 2 years undergraduate. Phi Beta Sigma is a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The current International President is Jimmy Hammock, and the fraternity's headquarters are located at 145 Kennedy Street, NW Washington, D.C.

Groom Nathanael Gay Discusses 'Gay Kappa Wedding' on The Tom Joyner Morning Show

05:27
(Repost) The past few days have seen blogs exploding with fiery comments over a reported same-sex wedding ceremony featuring Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. themed colors and a member of the fraternity himself. The two happy grooms, Robert Brown and Nathaniel Gay, held their crimson-and-cream themed ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 4 in Lexington, KY. Gay called in to The Tom Joyner Morning Show to clarify misconceptions surrounding his viral wedding ceremony footage. There was much confusion over whether both partners were members of the historically African-American male greek letter organization. Gay clarified that he is the only member of the fraternity and that his wedding not "Kappa" themed. "There was no affiliation whatsoever to Kappa at my wedding. This was not a Kappa wedding," Gay said in an interview with TJMS. "My husband's not a Kappa. He's not Greek. Our colors weren't based off the Kappa colors like most of the articles mentioned. The only affiliation to Kappa was my sands being there in support." Me and my sands took two pictures throwing up the "Yo" and a media outlet chose to take our video and run with it, he added. Gay told the TJMS crew he didn't incorporate his fraternity's colors in his wedding. Red and white, he said, is a symbol of love and has nothing to do with Kappa Alpha Psi. "If anyone's really done their history and research on Kappa, Kappa's colors aren't red and white, they are crimson and cream," Gay said. ~Subscribe & Follow https://KollegeKidd.com on Twitter: https://twitter.com/KollegeKidd ~Like on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kollege-Kidd/188561194527170 ~Follow Instagram Page Here: http://instagram.com/kollegekidd/ ~Collegiate NeTVision (CNV) · http://www.kollegekidd.com ~Subscribe To Kollege Kidd 2nd Channel Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXpGi22cKtuNtiKUqFjj8BQ ~Subscribe To Kollege Kidd Music Channel Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkE-cwInwMWYJpFBr6leejA KollegeKidd.com Is The Leader In Hip Hop News and Urban Edutainment

Greek alphabet | Wikipedia audio article

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Greek alphabet Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. You can find other Wikipedia audio articles too at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuKfABj2eGyjH3ntPxp4YeQ You can upload your own Wikipedia articles through: https://github.com/nodef/wikipedia-tts "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." - Socrates SUMMARY ======= The Greek alphabet has been used to write the Greek language since the late ninth or early eighth century BC. It is derived from the earlier Phoenician alphabet, and was the first alphabetic script to have distinct letters for vowels as well as consonants. In Archaic and early Classical times, the Greek alphabet existed in many different local variants, but, by the end of the fourth century BC, the Eucleidean alphabet, with twenty-four letters, ordered from alpha to omega, had become standard and it is this version that is still used to write Greek today. These twenty-four letters are: Α α, Β β, Γ γ, Δ δ, Ε ε, Ζ ζ, Η η, Θ θ, Ι ι, Κ κ, Λ λ, Μ μ, Ν ν, Ξ ξ, Ο ο, Π π, Ρ ρ, Σ σ/ς, Τ τ, Υ υ, Φ φ, Χ χ, Ψ ψ, and Ω ω. The Greek alphabet is the ancestor of the Latin and Cyrillic scripts. Like Latin and Cyrillic, Greek originally had only a single form of each letter; it developed the letter case distinction between uppercase and lowercase forms in parallel with Latin during the modern era. Sound values and conventional transcriptions for some of the letters differ between Ancient and Modern Greek usage, because the pronunciation of Greek has changed significantly between the fifth century BC and today. Modern and Ancient Greek also use different diacritics. Apart from its use in writing the Greek language, in both its ancient and its modern forms, the Greek alphabet today also serves as a source of technical symbols and labels in many domains of mathematics, science and other fields.
