Mineral Exploration in PNG
Titan Mines Limited and Titan Metals Limited are two PNG incorporated companies very active in minerals exploration in Papua New Guinea. Both of these companies are supported closely by their Australian partner, ASX listed MIL Resources Limited. Titan Mines owns 100% of the Amazon Bay Ironsands project located in south east PNG whilst Titan Metals holds Exploration Licences and Exploration Licence Applications for gold, copper and other base metals across peninsular PNG, New Britain and New Ireland provinces. In 2007 ASX listed MIL Resources Limited acquired a 25% interest in Titan Mines and agreed to acquire up to 90% by funding A$22.5 million in exploration and evaluation programmes at Amazon Bay. Additionally MIL controls a 50% interest in Titan Metals and is currently working closely with the Titan teams. Amazon Bay is a mineral exploration target estimated to be between 3 4 billion tones of vanadium rich magnetite ironsands spanning over 150 kilometres of coastline and potentially contains around 200 million tonnes of magnetite concentrate. Porgera and the Environment
The Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) mine, located in the mountainous central highlands of Papua New Guinea, operates in a unique geographic location. The mine follows a government-approved environmental management and monitoring program based on a comprehensive permit issued by the PNG government. Extensive river monitoring involves stringent processes developed in conjunction with CSIRO, Australia's national science agency. Records show the mine has never exceeded water quality compliance levels set out under its environmental permit. The Porgera Environmental Advisory Komiti is made up of independent experts from Papua New Guinea and Australia. The organization monitors environmental performance at PJV. Since acquiring its interest in the mine, Barrick Gold Corporation has launched a number of initiatives to review and enhance the mine's environmental systems.
Landowner Urges Government Not to Renew Porgera Mining Lease
Mr Paraia has urged the National Government not to renew the Porgera Special Mining Lease Agreement. Mr Paraia says landowners demand an investigation into the issuing of water permits by the mining operator. Landowners says severe damages were done but remain unreported.

Burkina Faso's Transitional Government to Review Mine Permits
Burkina Faso's transitional government will review some mine contracts signed under former President Blaise Compaore, responding to concerns that exploration permits were granted in opaque conditions, new mines minister Colonel Boubacar Ba said. Gold is the West African nation's top commodity and the country exported 32 tonnes in 2013. It had been expecting to increase output this year with new projects from developers TrueGold, Gryphon and Roxgold. The interim government's decision follows similar reviews carried out by other African countries over the past decade -- most notably in Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/O2RDiTIvT34/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Aurasian Minerals chairman confident of securing licences
Tony Shearer, chairman of Aurasian Minerals (LON:AUM), formerly Triple Plate Junction, is hopeful of securing the mining licences the company has its eye on in South East Asia. Shearer is keeping his cards close to his chest in terms of where these licences will be, but says the focus is on four countries: Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and possibly Indonesia. It comes after a tough few years for the AIM-listed miner, which has shifted its focus away from Papua New Guinea.
Controversy over PNG gas plant
Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Energy giant ExxonMobil has suspended work on a liquefied natural gas plant in Papua New Guinea after four local villagers were killed in a tribal dispute. The plant which will liquefy and load gas for export is expected to become a major pillar of the country's economy. But some people in the region are living in extreme poverty and activists say these large-scale projects will only benefit the rich instead of the poor, local population. “Oceanography: Mining Mineral In The Ocean” is an issue of the Science Screen Report, presented by United Technologies Sikorsky Aircraft, that discusses the potential and problems of have deep-sea mining for minerals. The issue opens with shots of the sea, which is a “reserve of global resources,” including metals from deep-sea nodules (polymetallic nodules). These nodules cover vast areas of the sea bottom, and their potential is the reason for a major deep-ocean project being carried out. Deep Sea Nodules can be the size of potatoes, and their porous structure accumulates layers of various metals. They are very slow growing, but sizeable nodules cover areas of the sea floor, providing a significant reserve of metals. As part of the project to determine the mining feasibility of nodules, the first self-propelled robot miner (01:38) is developed and tested. Scientists examine nodules in a lab (02:52), but to answer a number of questions surrounding them, the National Science Foundation uses Research Vessel Melvillle (03:12) to carry out underwater tests. Members of the crew lower sound beacons to create a grid (03:35). Then a robot mapping vehicle is lowered into the water to gather data within the grid. In the control room (04:10), the team monitors the robot’s data. The next step is the collection of sea floor samples (05:08); a box corer is lowered into the water to gather sample nodules, transporting nodules and their environment to the surface. Scientists examine the contents, conduct tests, and record data. The results indicate nodules may grow similar to coral. Next, piston corers (06:52) are used to take out samples of core sections of the floor to add to the mission’s overall understanding. After two weeks, the samples and data are collected, stored, and made accessible to over 50 research centers throughout the world. The next phase involves exploration ship Governor Ray (08:06), which monitors a sea mining research site, and Glomar Explorer (08:22), a surface platform ship (originally built as a deep-sea recovery platform for the CIA as part of Project Azorian also known as Project Jennifer) with an internal dry dock that holds the advanced robot miner. The crew preps for launch day by filling the dry dock, opening the doors (11:00), and moving the robot miner into the water. The robot miner hangs under the ship as pipe attachments are installed, connecting the miner and processor to transport nodule slurry. The robot miner is positioned and the processor is attached to it, enabling the mining operation to begin (12:18). Sonar and TV images show how easily the miner collects nodules as is moves across sea floor capturing images and harvesting nodules, which are crushed into a slurry and piped up to the ship. A commercial miner would be 10 times the size of the robot miner, but the smaller robot miner is the first step in the eventual commercial mining of the sea’s unique nodules. Background on this ... historic film is that it shows techniques used to conduct deep ocean mining of the sea floor, which were pioneered in the 1960s. The potential for this type of mining (particularly of manganese nodules) was never fully realized. Ironically, the program did end up providing the cover for the USNS Hughes Glomar Explorer (T-AG-193), a deep-sea drillship platform built for the United States Central Intelligence Agency Special Activities Division secret operation Project Azorian to recover the sunken Soviet submarine K-129, lost in April 1968. Hughes Glomar Explorer (HGE), as the ship was called at the time, was built between 1973 and 1974, by Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. for more than US$350 million at the direction of Howard Hughes for use by his company, Global Marine Development Inc. This is equivalent to $1.67 billion in present-day terms. She set sail on 20 June 1974. Hughes told the media that the ship's purpose was to extract manganese nodules from the ocean floor. This marine geology cover story became surprisingly influential, spurring many others to examine the idea. But in sworn testimony in United States district court proceedings and in appearances before government agencies, Global Marine executives and others associated with Hughes Glomar Explorer project unanimously maintained that the ship could not be used in any economically viable ocean mineral operation. Mamut Copper Mine
This is the Mamut Copper Mine, Acid Mine Drainage site in Sabah, Malaysia. The mine ceased operations in the 1990s and what remains behind is a giant pit filled with runoff from the surrounding cliff faces. The low pH of the water (3.0 to 4.0) and the high concentration of Copper in the soil do not permit the growth of algae or terrestrial plants. However, recent observations have indicated that some resilient species have adapted to this extreme ecological niche. Our research work is focusing on the isolation of copper tolerant microbes and we have isolated a variety of Bacillus which can thrive in the acidic conditions and possess the necessary genes for adaptation to Copper. Darnley Bay $DBL.V $DNLYF Could Be Canada's Next Major Zinc Mine
http://goldstocktrades.com/blog I recently connected with the Executive Chairman of Darnley Bay Resources $DBL.V $DNLYF Kerry Knoll who has 35 years in the mining industry, founding some famous deals such as Wheaton River and Thompson Creek which provided early shareholders with amazing gains. Meaning that some investors bought Kerry's deal for sub fifty cents and some of his deals went to $10+ a share. He is back at it again with Darnley Bay and its Pine Point Project with its 4+ billion pounds of zinc. Why is the market looking at zinc again and what gets Kerry up every morning for this com[any's project? Inventories for zinc are extremely low with a lot of production shutting down globally yet demand is rising as automobile sales are climbing to record highs every year. There are very few large zinc projects in Canada like Pine Point in the cupboard for the major producers such as Teck and Sumitomo. Kerry Knoll is a smart entrepreneur starting off as a writer for The Northern Miner before becoming a mining entrepreneur finding some of the big winners in the prior commodity bull markets which reached market caps in the billions and employed thousands of people. Kerry has retired after some successful winnings but keeps returning because he truly loves the business and believes in this project. He is especially excited about the Pine Point Zinc Project which Darnley Bay picked up recently. Kerry thinks he can get mine back into production within 3 years which is pretty amazing as there are very few zinc projects out there with the unique characteristics of this project. Its open pit with great infrastructure located in a mining friendly jurisdiction the NW Territories. Pine Point was a profitable past producer in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and left behind four billion pounds of zinc as the former operator Cominco went after Red Dog in Alaska as prices collapsed in late 80’s to .35 per pound. However, now the situation is very different as zinc is in deficit with mines being closed and a real dearth of viable projects to replaces that shortfall. Pine Point may come back into favor as it was once one of the world’s most profitable zinc mines because of the high grades, open pit and nearby infrastructure with rail lines. Darnley Bay is advancing an updated Preliminary Economic Assessment PEA by mid March which could be quite an important event for this company as it will guide the Feasibility Study. In addition the company has budgeted for a huge drilling campaign as there are a lot of areas under-explored. This has the making of a mine. Metallurgy shows excellent recoveries with historically clean concentrates. Permits are in place to start construction and the exploration upside is extremely apparent. The updated PEA should be a catalyst for the company and put it on the map of some of the majors looking to build out their pipeline of large and low cost zinc projects. Disclosure: I (Jeb Handwerger) own shares in Darnley Bay and the company is a website sponsor which means I have been compensated and could benefit from a rising share price. I may buy or sell at anytime with no notice. This contains forward looking statements which may not come to fruition. Buyer beware small cap mining stocks are very risky.

Red Eagle (RD.V or RDEMF): One of the Highest Economic Undeveloped Gold Mines in The World
http://goldstocktrades.com/blog Since July of 2014 I have been covering Red Eagle Mining (RD.V or RDEMF) which has possibly the most economic near term producing gold mine on the entire TSX Venture Exchange. Some of Red Eagle's competitors are located in risky Burkina Faso which is undergoing violent protest and no government. A lot of capital has been invested but recent events should cause concern. I would recommend considering Red Eagle which has outperformed the GDXJ since July but unfortunately was hit with recent liquidation from a weak handed German investor who bailed when gold broke $1180. However, Red Eagle has rebounded nicely and the correction should've been used to accumulate more shares in what possibly could be Colombia's next gold mine rather than panic sell. Insiders including the CEO Ian Slater picked up some shares at $.20. I believe the permit for the mine will come shortly. Remember there is a lot of local support and the Secretary of Mines approved the Mine Plan in August 2014. The final Environmental Impact Assessment was submitted in February 2014 and I expect the final environmental license could be issued shortly. Once the license comes I expect Red Eagle to be trading at .5 times Net Asset Value which is around $50 million. With less than a $14 million market cap Red Eagle may represent a deeply discounted bargain which could possibly triple in value in the near term. Production could begin in 2016 and dividends could come quickly as cash costs lead the industry below $600 an ounce with a high IRR of 52%. Disclosure: I am a shareholder and the company is a website sponsor. Conflicts of interest apply as I would benefit if Red Eagle moves higher in value. Please do your own due diligence.
