Technology Metals Australia persuing upside at Gabanintha beyond $1b+ PFS

08:52
Technology Metals Australia (ASX:TMT) executive director Ian Prentice speaks to Proactive Investors about the company's milestone achievement of releasing a pre-feasibly study (PFS) 18 months after listing on the ASX. The company's flagship Gabanintha Vanadium Project in Western Australia has been developed at pace, with a "globally significant large resource" announced in March, which the freshly-released PFS assesses as having a net present value (NPV) of $1.27 billion, based on a 13-year mine life and discount rate of 10%. "A lot of engineering and a lot of detailed metallurgical work has gone into the study, and it's delivered a very technically-strong, financially-robust project... the study was only based on about 21 million tonnes of our overall 120 million tonne resource," says Prentice. The project also looks to be of a premium grade with relatively low costs of production.

MATERIALS ENGINEER MIGRATING FROM PHILIPPINES TO AUSTRALIA

03:39
Mabuhay! This video is presented by Jose Respall, the principal of Respall Migration Australia which was founded in 1999. If you are a Filipino Materials Engineer working in the Philippines or overseas in a country outside Australia here is a great opportunity for you. A chance to further your career in Australia. It is a land of opportunity with higher wages and a wonderful relaxed way of life. Joseis a registered migration agent who specialises in Australian immigration. The first step involves reading the first 4 chapters of Jose Respall's book Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines. The book captures his 14 years of Australian immigration experience. Respall has made the first 4 chapters available in a downloadable e-book from the website at http://www.respall.com/. He has included real life Australian immigration case studies, hints and tips on how to migrate to Australia, technical information and the all-important code of conduct. The video outlines the process to receiving a visa to live in Australia. The Materials Engineer applicant must attend a review for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at Respall Migration Australia Manila. This is done to help the applicant to pass it. The engineer is shown the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) which is a requirement of Engineers Australia to prove the applicant has the experience to work in Australia. Respall Migration Australia documentation specialists assist the Materials Engineer with each document to make sure it is correct - this includes improving their CV to Australian standards. Engineers Australia is the assessing authority for engineers who migrate to Australia from the Philippines. Once the IELTS test has been passed and Engineers Australia has provided a favourable letter the next step is for Respall Migration Australia to prepare an Expression of Interest and lodge it with the Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection (DIPB). The department sends specific instructions regarding the engineer application for Australian immigration and Respall Migration Australia help the Materials Engineer to complete the requests. Once those requirements are met the department issues a visa grant for the engineer and their family members - if they are included in the application for Australian immigration. To start this whole process a Filipino Materials Engineer must email their CV to Respall Migration Australia for assessment. Engineers living in the Philippines can meet Respall Migration Australia in their Makati City office; those further away can Skype. The complete book Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines will officially be launched in May 2014 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Respall Migration Australia. Respall Migration Australian principal Jose Respall says there is a real minefield when it comes to Australian immigration. Engineers being highly skilled professionals sometimes attempt to prepare their own visa applications but they can't be expected to know the Migration Act and keep up with Australian government changes to legislation which occur several times a year. One wrong answer or incorrect document can jeopardise the entire application. The other danger is the many unscrupulous and corrupt individuals who promise to help but really are only interested in taking the applicant's money and disappearing. Some have masqueraded as migration agents. The end result is usually the visa applicant losing a lot of money for no gain. Respall Migration Australia stresses the need for a genuine and valid visa application for Australian immigration. A Filipino Materials Engineer has peace of mind knowing that Jose Respall, who is located in Sydney, Australia, is a registered migration agent as is the manager of his operation based in the Philippines and they must abide by the Code of Conduct as a breach of the code would see their licence being removed. A copy of the code of conduct is provided by Respall Migration Australia to their clients. Use this link Respall http://www.respall.com/ to get your copy of the first 4 chapters of Avoiding The Migration Minefield - How To Migrate To Australia From The Philippines and start your journey to a new and better life! Whitehead Says BHP Strikes May Drive Coal Prices Higher

03:53
June 15 (Bloomberg) -- Colin Whitehead, an analyst at Fat Prophets, talks about the potential impact of strikes at BHP Billiton Ltd. coking coal mines in Australia on prices for the steelmaking commodity. More than 400 workers at BHP's mines began strikes yesterday for the first time in a decade, disrupting production from the world's largest exporter. Whitehead also discusses Australia's planned mining tax. He speaks from Sydney with John Dawson on Bloomberg Television's "First Up." (Source: Bloomberg)

South32 Scraps $A263m Coal Mine Deal

00:54
South32 Scraps $A263m Coal Mine Deal South32 has scrapped its $US200 million ($A263 million) purchase of a NSW coking coal mine after baulking at the 'significant concessions' needed to gain approval from the competition watchdog. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said the proposed acquisition of the Metropolitan Colliery could substantially lessen competition in coking coal supply to local steelmakers in the Illawarra region. After two months of deliberations, the diversified miner on Tuesday called off the deal. 'South32 is not prepared to make significant concessions in favour of Australian steelmakers that would likely be required to mitigate the competition concerns,' the company said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange. 'To do so would be contrary to the global market in which metallurgical coal producers compete and would adversely affect the value proposition of the acquisition.' South32 had agreed in November to buy the NSW colliery from US coal giant Peabody, along with a 16.67 per cent stake in the Port Kembla coal terminal in Wollongong. 'Our approach to acquisitions is always opportunistic and seen through the lens of creating value for our shareholders,' chief executive Graham Kerr said. 'To proceed with the acquisition, in light of the anticipated concessions, would have compromised the merits of the transaction and this is not something we are prepared to do.' Shares South32 tumbled to their lowest level in more than three months when the ACCC announced its objections in February, but have since risen by 13 per cent with the BHP Billiton spinoff launching a $US500 million buyback. Vendetta Mining: Preparing for More Drilling at the Pegmont Lead-Zinc Deposit

04:27
At last week's 2015 PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange, Resource Investing News had the chance to speak with Michael Williams, CEO of Vendetta Mining (TSXV:VTT). Vendetta's focus is on advanced-stage exploration projects in Australia, and it's currently working on moving the Queensland-based Pegmont lead-zinc project forward. In this interview, Williams goes over the highlights from recently released maiden drill results from Pegmont, also touching on work completed at the deposit by previous companies. Up next for the company will be "more drilling to confirm that the mineralization continues from [Zone 5]." Vendetta also hit a zone close to surface in the last round of drilling, and wants "to see how big that zone is, as well." Metallurgical testing will be part of the next phase as well. In closing, Williams comments on whether he sees Pegmont being able to take advantage of the zinc price rise that many believe is imminent. "You always worry about the zinc market because it tends to get ahead of itself and it can pull back quickly, for instance, when you see Chinese production," he said, adding, "I think given the fact where we are with Pegmont we can still catch that cycle."

Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2013: Malcolm Knox - We are Asia's Quarry

01:03:46
Whether we like it or not, we are a mining nation. Mining has always been an important part of the Australian economy, but has been edged out of our mythology by romantic images of the farmer and the jolly swagman. There are many aspects of contemporary mining that make us uneasy. Mining forces us to depend on foreign clients and capital supplies, it depletes and damages the environment and does not fully reward traditional owners. It employs relatively few Australians and places in danger those who are in work. But few of us aren't touched by its benefits and the recent mining boom has given us the best of both worlds -- the cash without the dirty finger nails., so we need to understand it and stop pretending it should not happen. We are Asia's quarry, a lucky country, not a clever one. It's time to stop pretending any different and take responsibility for what we sell. Malcolm Knox is the award-winning author, journalist, and former Literary Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, where he famously broke the Walkley Award-winning Norma Khouri story Award. He is the author of many fiction and non-fiction books, including the Ned Kelly Award-winning A Private Man and The Captains. http://sydneyoperahouse.com/ideas Subscribe and find more videos from Ideas at the House: http://www.youtube.com/ideasatthehouse Get a new talk every week on our podcast: Audio - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/sydney-opera-house-ideas-at/id640445035 Video - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/sydney-opera-house-ideas-at/id640444896 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/IdeasAtTheHouse Twitter - https://twitter.com/ideasatthehouse

Science and the First World War (26 June 2014)

59:42
Prof Jon Agar, UCL Science and Technology Studies By examining the lives of figures such as Henry Gwyn Jeffreys Moseley and Fritz Haber, Prof Jon Agar will show how scientists on all sides of the First World War were swept up in the tide of patriotism, militarism and nationalism, making contributions, some tragically brief, some devastatingly effective, to the waging of war. And what of the long-lasting effects? While some saw the Great War as an irreparable crisis of modern civilisation, with science as a symbol of inhumanity, others saw science as a internationalist project capable of healing wounds.

Manhattan Project | Wikipedia audio article

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Manhattan Project Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. It was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. From 1942 to 1946, the project was under the direction of Major General Leslie Groves of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer was the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory that designed the actual bombs. The Army component of the project was designated the Manhattan District; Manhattan gradually superseded the official codename, Development of Substitute Materials, for the entire project. Along the way, the project absorbed its earlier British counterpart, Tube Alloys. The Manhattan Project began modestly in 1939, but grew to employ more than 130,000 people and cost nearly US$2 billion (about $22 billion in 2016 dollars). Over 90% of the cost was for building factories and to produce fissile material, with less than 10% for development and production of the weapons. Research and production took place at more than 30 sites across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Two types of atomic bombs were developed concurrently during the war: a relatively simple gun-type fission weapon and a more complex implosion-type nuclear weapon. The Thin Man gun-type design proved impractical to use with plutonium, and therefore a simpler gun-type called Little Boy was developed that used uranium-235, an isotope that makes up only 0.7 percent of natural uranium. Chemically identical to the most common isotope, uranium-238, and with almost the same mass, it proved difficult to separate the two. Three methods were employed for uranium enrichment: electromagnetic, gaseous and thermal. Most of this work was performed at the Clinton Engineer Works at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In parallel with the work on uranium was an effort to produce plutonium. After the feasibility of the world's first artificial nuclear reactor was demonstrated in Chicago at the Metallurgical Laboratory, it designed the X-10 Graphite Reactor at Oak Ridge and the production reactors in Hanford, Washington, in which uranium was irradiated and transmuted into plutonium. The plutonium was then chemically separated from the uranium, using the bismuth phosphate process. The Fat Man plutonium implosion-type weapon was developed in a concerted design and development effort by the Los Alamos Laboratory. The project was also charged with gathering intelligence on the German nuclear weapon project. Through Operation Alsos, Manhattan Project personnel served in Europe, sometimes behind enemy lines, where they gathered nuclear materials and documents, and rounded up German scientists. Despite the Manhattan Project's tight security, Soviet atomic spies successfully penetrated the program. The first nuclear device ever detonated was an implosion-type bomb at the Trinity test, conducted at New Mexico's Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range on 16 July 1945. Little Boy and Fat Man bombs were used a month later in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively. In the immediate postwar years, the Manhattan Project conducted weapons testing at Bikini Atoll as part of Operation Crossroads, developed new weapons, promoted the development of the network of national laboratories, supported medical research into radiology and laid the foundations for the nuclear navy. It maintained control over American atomic weapons research and production until the formation of the United States Atomic Energy Commission in January 1947.

These 62 samples reflect sampling from 3 holes, DH 218, 210 and 220 from the company's JORC Compliant Coal Resource Drilling Programme which commenced in late April 2010. WA nickel explorer Condor Nickel Limited (ASX:CNK) exploration drilling continues to indicate the potential for a significant iron ore resource at its Dingo Range Project. Recent work at Dingo Range has included drilling and additional surface rock chip sampling, the geology of the Target Areas includes a Banded Iron Formation which has significant continuity within the Dingo Range greenstone belt and is the probable source of the secondary iron surface enrichment. The Dingo Range project is located some 450 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 150 kilometres south east of Wiluna. Mirabela Nickel Limited (TSX:MNB) (ASX:MBN) has priced an institutional bookbuild to raise US$165 million. The Global Offer is being privately placed with institutional investors in Australia, Canada and internationally and was priced at A$1.60 (C$1.52) per share. The successful completion of this equity raising will materially reduce the Company's financial indebtedness and provide Mirabela with a strong platform for future growth, and will also allow Mirabela to move forward with the continued ramp-up of operations at Santa Rita, commented Ian Purdy, CEO. IMX Resources Limited (ASX:IXR) has reported new nickel-copper intersections from 2010 diamond drilling completed at the Nachingwea project in southern Tanzania. The project is a 30:70 Joint Venture between IMX Resources and Continental Nickel Limited (CVE:CNI) of Canada. These new intersections have extended the previously defined Ntaka Hill Ni-Cu sulphide mineralisation beyond the boundaries of the 2009 Mineral Resource model. The 2010 diamond drilling programme at Nachingwea is now complete with 36 holes drilled for a total of 4,988.8 metres of diamond core.
