Burma Times Daily News Rohingya News, Culture, Documentary, Religious, Educational and Empowerment Programs. French NGO worker arrested in Bangladesh while working with ‪#‎Rohingya‬ ===================================== A French national working with an Islamic NGO has been arrested in Bangladesh, reportedly accused of "suspicious activities" that could mean up to 10 years in jail. He was working with the Rohingya minority, Muslims who have fled Buddhist-majority Myanmar. Puemo Tchantchuing, who prefers to be known as Moussa Ibn Yacoub since his conversion to Islam, was arrested on Tuesday 22 December and has been detained since then. As well as being accused of "suspicious activities", punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, he may be charged with using a false identity, because the name he uses is not the one on his passport and identity card, according to lawyer Samim Bolaky. He was working for the French-based NGO Baraka City, which says he was stopped at a checkpoint while going to schools and orphanages in the south of the country where the Rohingya camps are situated. "He is being kept in catastrophic conditions in cells that contain more than 40 prisoners," Bolaky said. He also faces charges for not registering with the authorities, according to Baraka City, which says that since the Rohingya are considered illegal immigrants it is not possible for the NGO to declare its presence legally. The French embassy in Bangladesh has provided the "usual protection" and he is waiting to appear in court, France's foreign ministry said. Baraka City, which was founded by strict Salafist Muslims, manages a budget of several million euros. French police have searched its premises several times and its bank accounts have been closed on more than one occassion but no connection to terrorist groups has ever been established. Over 97,000 people had signed a Facebook petition for the detained man's release on Sunday afternoon. Please subscribe for free to get hot news Burma Times [email protected] www.burmatimes.net

How to put the power of law in people's hands | Vivek Maru

19:44
What can you do when the wheels of justice don't turn fast enough? Or when they don't turn at all? Vivek Maru is working to transform the relationship between people and law, turning law from an abstraction or threat into something that everyone can understand, use and shape. Instead of relying solely on lawyers, Maru started a global network of community paralegals, or barefoot lawyers, who serve in their own communities and break the law down into simple terms to help people find solutions. Learn more about how this innovative approach to using the law is helping socially excluded people claim their rights. "A little bit of legal empowerment can go a long way," Maru says. 🇮🇳 India: The Lost Boys | 101 East

25:01
India: The Lost Boys Karma,16, has worked as a miner for over a year in India's northeastern state of Meghalaya, crawling deep inside a 'rat-hole' tunnel to dig coal for seven hours a day. "Inside it is very unstable. The smell is awful," he said sitting on a pile of coal. "It is so dirty, and it is difficult to move. You breathe in the coal and the dust. People get sick like this. There is no water to drink and it is so muddy. It is not nice at all." Child rights activists have reported that there are thousands of children like Karma working in Meghalaya's coal pits, because only those who are small in size are able fit in the claustrophobic tunnels. Many of them, like Karma, are believed to be from neighbouring Indian states, or from nearby Nepal and Bangladesh. Hasina Kharbhih has been fighting the exploitation of these children for several years through her NGO Impulse. She said agents working for mine owners help traffic children to the coal-rich Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. They promise impoverished parents high salaries in return for their children's work, but fail to mention the dangerous conditions they will be living in. The mines often flood without warning or cave in, trapping and killing workers. There is rarely any compensation for the victims. "If we die, we die," said Ram Kumar Rai, 40, a Nepalese miner in Jaintia Hills. "They just bury us here. If we live, we suffer and we can't earn. We rot here and die. People who have money, friends or family here, their body will be sent back to Nepal. And those who don’t have anyone, they will just throw their bodies here or there." Rai was recently trapped in a tunnel after a massive rock fell on him. He had severe pain in his back and chest but received no compensation or money for medical treatment from the mine owner. "When someone dies, they hide the body so no one will know. That way the owner does not pay compensation to the family. He doesn't pay a single cent," he said. There are several national laws in India that set labour and safety standards for mines, and ban children aged under 18 from working there. But the industry in Meghalaya is openly flouting these regulations because the state government has failed to implement these laws and punish offenders. Karma has been labouring here since he was 14. His family of seven moved to Jaintia Hills a few years ago from Assam, desperately searching for work. His father had just died of tuberculosis after spending a lifetime in Meghalaya's mines. "I would like to have the chance to study but then my brother would be the only one working and we cannot afford it. And if I try to do another job, the salary would be less. So do we eat or do I go to school?" Karma said. Karma works most days, using a pick-axe to remove coal from the walls of the tunnels. "When I first went in the rat-hole, I was so scared," he said. "I thought the roof would fall on me. My knees were all scratched, but after two weeks I got used to it." "There are boys who are nine to 10 years of age who are doing this work. Younger than that they cannot do it." Despite several reports by the media and child advocates, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Meghalaya's labour minister, said she had yet to see hard evidence of young labourers. "The mining owners were telling me that a child actually cannot pull out the coal from the mine," she said from her office in the state's capital, Shillong. "You need to verify the ages of these so-called children. We are a community which is very small built. If you looked at my face you would not know how old I am. I can challenge you on that. So I might look sweet 16 but my age is something else. "Every time we rescue these so-called children, they come to a medical officer and they manage to get a certificate which says they are above such and such age." Despite her reservations, Lyngdoh said the government is drafting the state's first ever mining policy so they can register all mine owners and set standards for what they can and cannot do. Child labour is banned under these guidelines but 'rat-hole' mining is not, which is why children are employed in the first place. Child rights activist Hasina Kharbhih is sceptical about the state government's sincerity in tackling child labour. "The political will has not been there because half of the mines are also owned by a lot of political leaders. So definitely there is a vested interest of the political leaders to actually ensure that you slow down the whole process of whatever complaint is coming," she said. "These people have no rights at all. A democratic country like India will not be developing and prospering through violation of rights. It is inhumane." Thousands protest Canadian plans to build massive gold mine

02:12
Thousands of people blocked a major road in downtown Bucharest on Sunday to protest plans to build what would be Europe's biggest gold mine. Demonstrators marched past the government headquarters waving banners, one reading "Romania, wake up!" Protests also took place in other cities, including the city of Cluj, where thousands called for the 2,000 year-old site where the open-cast mine will be located to be listed as a UNESCO heritage site. Canada's Gabriel Resources has been trying to gain permits to go ahead with the planned mine in northwest Romania's town of Rosia Montana for 14 years. The site has been mined for precious metals since at least Roman times, though work there stopped a few years ago. The Canadian company's approach would be far more efficient and involve razing four mountains. It is expected to fully extricate all the gold and silver in a couple of decades. The mine is believed to contain 314 tons of gold and 1,500 tons of silver. Protests against the plans began after the government sent a law to parliament on 27 August calling on lawmakers to give their support to the controversial project. A vote is expected in the coming weeks. "This country isn't no man's land. The people are sovereign. We alone decide what to do with it, not others. It is our country," said Alex Moise, who joined Sunday's demonstration in Bucharest. "No one asked us, no one consulted with us if we want or not this project. Some do what they want with this country, taking decisions on our accounts and we must go out in the street to show them we're not asleep and that we are here." Protesters gathered in the square in front of the government headquarters holding red and green sheets of paper - representing the leaf symbol that has become the logo of the anti-mine campaign. Opponents of the mine criticise plans to use cyanide in the extraction process, while others say Romania would earn too little from the project. It is the seventh Sunday protesters have taken to the streets of Bucharest. "I'm here as I want to tell politicians they need to reject the law regarding this mining project as we do not agree with it. We also want the mining project at Rosia Montana to stop," said protester Mirela Sauca. Supporters argue that the project would create jobs for unemployed miners and provide vital foreign investment to a deprived area. The Canadian company has pledged to protect the environment and historical monuments in Rosia Montana. They now face the menace of a resurgent Taliban. "It's pretty surreal to be here. You have to stop for a second and appreciate the moment", says Jeff Olson, a snowboarding lawyer from Texas. He and other adventurous Westerners have traveled to Bamiyan, 250Km Northwest of Kabul, to the impromptu ski slopes run by the ancient Shiite Hazara people. Jawad Lakoo, a local Hazara man, looks on the enterprise with trepidation. He witnessed the atrocities conducted by the Taliban during their rule of Afghanistan in the 1990s. "I remember three of my uncles – they took them from their shops and lined them up with more than 300 people and shot them". Even following the US-led intervention in Afghanistan, the Hazaras live in poverty, without electricity or running water. For many, the white slopes present a new hope. "Skiing sends a message of peace and unity", says local mechanic Shah Aqa. Free News Sharing and On-Line Art Gallery http://www.ciactivist.org FEATURE: The 2016 Fire and Rain art project that began in early January was inspired by news stories on wildfires that burned throughout Western Canada in 2015. Paintings were displayed outdoors publicly throughout Edmonton and their stories shared on YouTube. I used art from the beginning to defend freedom of expression on the Alberta Legislature grounds when it was verbally banned 3 times by Legislature officials. Some of the YouTubes published shared how the wildfires and flooding that followed affected Albertans, their communities and the environment. I hope my art and the stories shared will inspire us to contemplate the calamities in Alberta of 2016 as a collective and together help each other find ways and better solutions to save our planet and our children's future. 'What The Folks' is a journey of how modern families are breaking stereotypes, overcoming generation gaps, and growing to love one another, despite having starkly different world views. The show encapsulates the familial struggles of Nikhil, a young man who is forced to live with his in-laws for a few weeks. Episode 1: Murphy’s law works on Nikhil, and everything he does from the moment he enters his in-laws' house, goes wrong. A huge blunder greatly upsets Prakash, his father-in-law. He is really sorry about it, but both of them are unable to have an honest conversation about it. Will they resolve their issues? Or will things only go downhill from here? Whatever the case, one thing is for sure - the giggles and chuckles won't stop through the episode! VOA news for Thursday, August 25th, 2016

05:59
VOA news for Thursday, August 25th, 2016 Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text From Washington, this is VOA news. I'm David DeForest reporting. At least one person has been killed in an attack Wednesday at Afghanistan's American University in Kabul. At least 25 people have been wounded. Dozens of staff and students are believed to be trapped inside the university complex. The attacks began around 6:30 p.m. local time and set off an hour of gunfire as security forces responded. This student says he first heard an explosion and then gunfire. He says two bullets hit the floor of his classroom and the students escaped by climbing out of window. The number of attackers involved remains unclear and there were no claims of responsibility. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi says at least 120 people died in Wednesday's earthquake in central Italy. The hardest hit areas include the towns of Amatrice and Accumoli. The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude at 6.2, with the epicenter about 10 kilometers southeast of the town of Norcia. A strong earthquake shook north-central Myanmar Wednesday. At least three people were killed. The quake damaged about 60 ancient Buddhist pagodas. Turkish tanks and special forces stormed into Syria on Wednesday, launching an offensive aimed at clearing Islamic State militants and Syrian Kurds from the border region. About 1,500 Syrian opposition fighters also joined the cross-border operation. Hours after heavy pre-dawn artillery attacks and a Turkish and U.S. aerial bombardment of Islamic State targets around the town of Jarablus, Turkey's state-run news agency reported the rebels had captured one IS-held village. A senior U.S. official says American military is providing forces with air cover, intelligence and advisers. This is VOA news. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden says the White House is determined to listen to "every scrap of evidence" Turkey provides before deciding if it will extradite Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. Gulen lives in the U.S. and Turkey is demanding his immediate extradition, accusing him of organizing last month's failed military coup -- a charge he denies. Biden met in Ankara Wednesday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He tried to head off Mr. Erdoğan's impatience by explaining that American courts require firm evidence before a suspect is surrendered to another country. "(We should) make clear under American law no president of the United States has authority to extradite anyone under his own power, that only an American court can do that.” Turkey's prime minister says any delay in sending Gulen to Turkey could harm U.S.-Turkish relations. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has praised non-governmental organizations working in Nigeria. He met with representatives of anti-corruption NGOs. Anti-corruption groups in Nigeria have asked Kerry to help speed the return of billions of dollars looted from the country's treasury by local officials. They believe the looted money is in the United States or several European countries. Kerry told the group asset recovery is a lengthy, complicated process but that the U.S. government has lawyers and accountants working on it. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is proposing a new fund to improve the way the federal government responds to the Zika virus and other public health emergencies. The Public Health Rapid Response Fund would allow the president to quickly release money in the event of a public health crisis without having to wait for congressional approval. Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump campaigned Wednesday in Florida. He also plans to travel to Mississippi, where he is expected to address concerns of the black community. Mississippi student Muhammad Dakhlalla has been sentenced to eight years in prison on federal terrorism charges. He and his fiancee had planned to marry in Turkey and then travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group. The fiancée, Jaelyn Young, had converted to Islam while studying at Mississippi State University and was described as the mastermind of the plot. She was sentenced earlier this month to 12 years in prison. The South Sudan government Wednesday said that even though former rebel leader Riek Machar is being treated at a Khartoum hospital for an apparent chest infection and leg injury, relations between the two countries will not be soured. A spokesman says South Sudan will continue to work with Sudan on trade and other issues of interest. In Washington, I'm David DeForest. That's the latest world news from VOA.

Hearing on Urging China’s President Xi To Stop State-Sponsored Human Rights Abuses

02:13:15
Capitol Visitor Center, Room HVC 210 Washington, DC 20515 Friday, September 18, 2015 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm As President Obama prepares to host Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24-25, 2015, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) will hold a hearing to examine the critical human rights and rule of law issues that deserve frank and robust discussions during the planned state visit. It has been another bad year for human rights in China. In its forthcoming Annual Report, scheduled for release in October, the CECC will provide documentation of the Chinese government and Communist Party’s efforts to silence dissent, suppress human rights advocacy, and control civil society — efforts that are broader in scope than any other period documented since the Commission started issuing Annual Reports in 2002. Chinese authorities have targeted for arrest and harassment human rights defenders; media outlets and journalists; human rights lawyers; Tibetans and Uyghurs; religious groups; nongovernmental organizations (NGOs); intellectuals and democracy advocates; and supporters of “universal suffrage” in Hong Kong. The CECC Political Prisoner Database has case information on over 1,300 political and religious prisoners currently known or believed to be detained or imprisoned. There are many important issues, to include security and economic concerns, that should be on the agenda during the Chinese President’s visit. So too should human rights. It is increasingly clear that there are direct links between concrete improvements in human rights and the rule of law in China and the security and prosperity of the United States. Witnesses will address a variety of human rights developments and will make policy recommendations in the context of the upcoming summit. WITNESSES: Teng Biao, Chinese human rights lawyer, Harvard University Law School Visiting Fellow, and Co-founder, the Open Constitution Initiative Xiao Qiang, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, China Digital Times Yang Jianli, President, Initiatives for China/Citizen Power for China Wei Jingsheng, Chairman, Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition Shohret Hoshur, journalist reporting on news in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region for Radio Free Asia Ethan Gutmann, China analyst and author of The Slaughter: Mass Killings, Organ Harvesting, and China's Secret to Its Dissident Problem

Pakistan’s Ahmadis facing state sponsored violence and other stories in JUST ASIA, Episode 152

15:54
This week Just Asia begins with Pakistan, where two persons from the Ahmadiyya community were killed when a Muslim mob attacked the community’s mosque on December 12, the day Muslims were celebrating the birthday of Prophet Mohammed. Although the Ahmadi community had written to the Chakwal district commissioner, Punjab, about threats to burn their worship place, the government took no action. Next, Laos marks the fourth anniversary of the enforced disappearance of prominent civil society leader Sombath Somphone on December 15. Civil society groups across Asia have condemned the Lao PDR government’s ongoing failure to adequately investigate Sombath’s disappearance. Sombath was last seen at a police checkpoint on a busy street of the Lao capital, Vientiane, on the evening of 15 December 2012. Civil society groups call on the government to immediately ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and adopt relevant national legislation. In Thailand, the junta has pushed through a controversial mining bill without public participation. The bill’s controversial provisions include that the government can conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment on areas with mineral resources without participation from local communities and mining companies may be allowed to use previously protected forest lands. A coalition of anti-mine activist groups from across Thailand issued a public statement urging the government to withdraw the bill. For more information, JUST ASIA interviews Mr. Suttikiat Khotchaso, an environmental activist and lawyer. In Hong Kong, the Asian Legal Resource Centre is holding a regional meeting on 'Modernisation of crime investigation to guarantee rule of law & human rights' from December 19-22. This meeting is a step to further the Asian parliamentarians’ Alliance, and will play a lead role in addressing torture and all forms of ill-treatment, as well as the reformation of criminal justice institutions in Asia. In Indonesia’s Central Java province, residents of Rembang organized a protest march from Rembang to Semarang city on December 9, to demand the implementation of the Supreme Court verdict against the cement plant project and limestone mining of 5 October 2016. Ignoring the Supreme Court verdict, the Central Java governor recently issued a new permit to the mining company. In the last decade, Indonesia’s land conflicts have increased every year. To learn more, Just Asia speaks to Yusup Suramto, human rights lawyer in Central Java. In Burma, former UN chief Kofi Annan completed a week-long tour of Burma and Rakhine state, where a military crackdown has caused many deaths and forced the Rohingya minority to flee their homes. Speaking at a press conference on December 6, Annan acknowledged concern about the human rights abuses occurring against the Rohingya, but said accusations of genocide should not ‘be thrown around loosely’ and would require a ‘legal review’. Meanwhile, there have been increasing protests in Burma’s Muslim majority neighbouring countries. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razzak has been the most outspoken, even calling for Aung San Suu Kyi to return her Nobel Peace Prize, due to her silence on the atrocities committed by Burma’s military. Finally, the Urgent Appeals Weekly features two cases from Pakistan and Indonesia.

The Manila Times 5th Business Forum (Speech) 2/10/2017

01:07:12
Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City February 10, 2017 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte received a caricature symbolizing the ‘Man of the Year’ 2016 award during The Manila Times (TMT) 5th Business Forum in Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City. The event follows this year’s theme, “The Philippine Economic Outlook 2017: Peace Toward Sustainable Prosperity.” The forum tackled the economic visions of the Philippines under the current administration, emphasizing the plans and its policies for sustaining the growth of the Philippines that is one of the fastest growing economies in the Asian region. Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Carlos ‘Sonny’ Dominguez stressed the administration’s objective. “The Duterte administration is pushing a broad range of institutional and economic reforms. With the goal not only of achieving high growth but also shaping that growth so that it will become truly inclusive. To achieve that goal, our growth must be investment-led instead of consumption-led,” he said. According to Dr. Dante Ang, Chairman Emeritus of The Manila Times, the 2016 Man of the Year is given to “the leader of the masses who broke the mold of traditional politics and rose to power to set a new direction for the Philippines on the path of graft-free governance and new foreign policy partnerships toward real peace, a society free of illegal drugs, and sustainable prosperity.” Moreover, he added that the award “goes to the man who has captured the imagination of the Filipino people and set off the dawn of new politics.” In his keynote address, the Chief Executive shared his sentiments on receiving awards. “I do not accept awards, except this one... you do not give me an award or reward for the things that I have to do because I am paid to do that exactly,” President Duterte stressed. The event was also attended by Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, the Ambassador of China to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua, Ilocos Norte Governor Maria Imelda Josefa ‘Imee’ Marcos, and TMT President Dante Francis Ang II. ***** Connect with RTVM Website: http://rtvm.gov.ph Facebook: www.facebook.com/presidentialcom Twitter: @RTVMalacanang Google+: google.com/+RTVMalacanang Instagram: @RTVMalacanang

432Hz - Angelic Reiki Music | Angel Healing Music - Angel Choir Ambience - Angelic Meditation Music

02:00:00
432Hz allows us to tune into the wisdom of the Universe, Divine Intelligence and our Soul. It creates Unity instead of seperation. It expands our hearts and make us more compassionate and loving. One thing is for sure. A person who resonates with love have inner peace – and this is the starting point for a world were we live in Unity, Peace and Harmony with each-other and Mother Earth. Modern science has begun to recognize what the ancient mystics and wise men have told us for centuries; that everything is in a constant state of vibration. Everything down to the smallest physical particle to the things we cannot not perceive with our (yet) limited senses. The most elemental state of vibration is that of sound. Everything has an optimum range of vibration (frequency), and that rate is called resonance. When we are in resonance, we are in balance. Every organ and every cell in our precious body absorbs and emits sound with particular optimum resonate frequency. 432hz and 528hz tuned music creates resonance in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body. Asia Cast for Saturday 10th October

04:50
In this Bulletin - Professor ridicules claims by China that prominent lawyer not being mistreated; - Vietnam jails more democracy activists; and - 160 die as more flooding hits Philippines. But first, heres our SOH focus on China ********************** An accident at a coal mine in central China killed 26 miners Thursday. Two mineshaft elevators plunged 200 feet after the brakes failed. Nineteen miners died immediately, while seven another died while undergoing medical treatment. Five other miners survived but are injured. The incident occurred in a mine of Hsikwangshan Twinkling Star Antimony Co Ltd, in Hunan Province. Coal mining is one of the most dangerous occupations in China. And Chinas mines are the deadliest in the world, due to lax safety standards, poor regulation and a rush to feed the demands of the economy. ********************** A Chinese pensioner was recently beaten to death at a labour camp in Hebei Province less than six weeks into a one year sentence. Despite Chinese law prohibiting anyone over 60 from being sent to a labour camp, 20 police took Liu from her home and sent her to the Hebei First Labor Camp. But Liu Fengqings supposed crime was simply to have gone to Beijing 35 times this year to appeal against illegal logging by local officials. Beijing Lawyer Xie Yianyi told NTDTV that Chinas labour camp system has no legislative oversight, and often results in human rights atrocities. Liu Fengqings daughter, Liu Yuhong, said labour camps in China were even more cold-hearted, severe and cruel than the prisons. ********************** And now for the rest of todays Asia Cast ********************** An American law professor has said claims that Chinese human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng is not being mistreated are beyond laughable. Professor Donald Clarke of George Washington University was responding to information the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. provided to a Congressional Executive Commission on China hearing this week. Gao, a stalwart for representing repressed groups in China such as Falun Gong practitioners and Christians, has been harassed, tortured, and detained by Chinese authorities since 2005. Gao was taken from his familys home by authorities in February this year and has not been seen since. Banning Transparency: Corruption & Censorship in Ban Ki-moon's UN, Han Seung-soo, Yemen & W Sahara

29:11
BANNing Transparency: By Matthew Russell Lee Inner City Press had been covering the United Nations for ten years, on issues from Sri Lanka to Libya to sexual abuse by UN Peacekeepers, when it began a series on corruption in Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's UN tenure. It included links to the bribery scandal of John Ashe as President of the UN General Assembly, Macau-based businessman Ng Lap Seng and his fundees including South South News. It led back to Ban giving his mentor Han Seung-soo a UN position, Special Adviser on Water and Disaster Risk Reduction, while allowing Han to be on the boards of directors of Doosan, which is in the UN Procurement database and sells equipment to the countries Han gives speeches to, and of Standard Chatered Bank, with at least two UN contracts. Suddenly everything changed. At first, Inner City Press remained able to ask Ban Ki-moon questions, like at the UN Security Council stakeout in October 2015. But as more and more connections emerged, from Ban's presence for photo-ops with Ng Lap Seng to attendance at dubious events in the UN lobby, Inner City Press was cut off from questions. Ban Ki-moon's Under Secretary General for Public Information Cristina Gallach, who had approved at least two of the dubious events and had attended and spoken at Ng Lap Seng's South South Awards, declined to answer questions about it. After Inner City Press on January 29, 2016, sought to cover an event in the UN Press Briefing Room by a group which had taken money from Ng's South South News and given his photo-ops with the Bans at its fundraiser at Cipriani's on 42nd Street - an event that was nowhere listed as “closed” -- Ban's spokesman Stephane Dujarric ordered Inner City Press out of the Press Briefing Room. Three weeks later, Gallach had delivered to Inner City Press an ouster order telling it to leave the UN in two hours. The order was enforced by eight UN Security officials, who tore off Inner City Press' UN media accreditation card, pushed its Matthew Russell Lee down the UN escalator andt out onto First Avenue, throwing his laptop in a bag down on the sidewalk. The First Amendment, it had become clear, ends on First Avenue. Inner City Press was told it was Banned from all UN premises worldwide. The issue was raised to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Inner City Press, returned on a more limited pass and confined to Ban Ki-moon “minders,” continued and continues to pursue the story of UN corruption, and malfeasance and negligence from bringing cholera to Haiti to inaction in Burundi and Western Sahara to Ban Ki-moon dropping Saudi Arabia from the Yemen Children and Armed Conflict annex, for money. As of August 2016, as Ban Ki-moon coyly prepared to try to run for president of South Korea, Inner City Press exposed that Ban's coordinator on sexual abuse issues was also on the board of directors of Union Pacific, paying $250,000 a year, and that Ban's adviser Han Seung-soo was also on the board of directors of South Korean firm Doosan Infracore, which appears in the UN Procurement database as doing business with the UN, and of Standard Chartered Bank. Then there were Jean Todt, Ban's envoy on Road Safety on the board of a company that runs bars and online poker, and more. To be continued. www.InnerCityPress.com

제주 중국인 불법체류자 대거 자진출국…일자리 감소 영향 China's unofficial retaliation against the THAAD missile defense system, including its ban on group tours to Korea, appears to be impacting Chinese workers in the country illegally. Dissecting a Massacre (2013): Can there be justice for the Marikana miners in a country plagued by corruption, where over 9000 policemen face criminal charges? The Commission of Inquiry into the Marikana massacre is rapidly spiraling out of control, in a country where the government is accused of rampant corruption and over 9000 policemen face criminal charges. He had joined the 3,000 miners protesting against their sub-standard wages when police opened fire, killing 34 and wounding another 78. "I saw that apartheid was back. But now it was blacks killing blacks...blacks not wanting other blacks to prosper", says Xolani Nzuza, one of the co-coordinators of the protest. The Commission of Inquiry into the massacre has been sitting for 10 months, dogged by delays and false starts. It's also proving to be dangerous to be a witness at the commission. Six miners have been murdered just before they were to take the stand. "It troubles us that workers who witnessed the massacre have no lawyers. If they are not able to be represented, it means there is no truth in this commission", says one widow, Nonkulueko Ngxande.
