The Top 10 Biggest Gold Mine In The World's 10. Cortez Production: 999,000 ounces Another large mine owned by Barrick and located in Nevada, Cortez just about ties with Goldstrike in terms of production. Cortez’s production of 999,000 ounces in 2015 is a 10.75 percent increase from its 2014 production of 902,000 ounces. As of December 31, 2015, proven and probable mineral reserves were 11.1 million ounces of gold. 2. Goldstrike Production: 1.05 million ounces One of Barrick’s biggest gold mines, Goldstrike, is located within Nevada’s prolific Carlin trend. The property consists of the Betze-Post open-pit mine and the Meikle and Rodeo underground mines. Goldstrike’s proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2015 were 8.5 million ounces of gold. Its production outlook for 2016 is expected to be somewhere between 975,000-1,075,00 ounces of gold at sustaining costs of $780-$850 per ounce. 1. Grasberg Production: 1.23 million ounces Grasberg, a copper-gold mine in Papua, Indonesia is the largest gold mine in the world. The mine is mostly owned by Freeport-McMoran (NYSE:FCX), with the government of Indonesia owning roughly 9 percent of the complex. After that, operations will transition to focus on underground orebodies beneath and nearby the Grasberg pit. In August, it was reported that Indonesia renewed the export license allowing Freeport to ship 1.4 million metric tonnes of concrete from the Grabserg mine through to January 11, 2017. source article: https://goo.gl/TvdB1Z

TWENTY FIRST CENTURY KALGOORLIE, THE GOLD SUPERPIT FIMISTON WESTERN AUSTRALIA

14:44
Super Pit gold mine, ONE OF A SERIES ON KALGOORLIE SEE http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?q=DON+PUGH+KALGOORLIE From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Fimiston Open Pit, colloquially known as the Super Pit, ( 30°46′29″S, 121°30′34″E), is Australia's largest open cut gold mine. The Super Pit is located off the Goldfields Highway on the south-east edge of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia. Most of the gold mined in the Super Pit occurs within ore lodes formed by ancient shears in a rock unit called the Golden Mile Dolerite. As a result, the area is known as the Golden Mile even though the lodes occur in an area over 2 km in width and 1 km in depth. This renowned Kalgoorlie-Boulder land mark will eventually stretch 3.8 km long, 1.4 km wide and reach a depth over 500 m. Since 1893, when Irishman Paddy Hannan first made his famous discovery, more than 50 million ounces (1,550 t) of gold have been harvested from the Golden Mile. Originally consisting of a number of small underground mines, consolidation into a single open pit mine was attempted by Alan Bond, but he was unable to complete the takeover. The Super Pit was eventually created in 1989 by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Normandy Australia and Homestake Gold of Australia Limited. As of 2005 Kalgoorlie Consolidate Gold Mines Pty Ltd is owned by the Australian subsidiaries of the Barrick Gold Corporation and Newmont Mining Corporation and produces up to 900,000 ounces (28 t) of gold every year. The Super Pit is open for viewing at the public lookout daily between 7 am and 9 pm. Blasts occur regularly and can often be viewed from this lookout located off the Goldfields Highway in Boulder. Free tours of the Super Pit run once a month on Boulder Market Days. The tours give a behind the scenes look at the mining operations and equipment. A highlight of the tour is the opportunity to view the pit from the OBR (Oroya Bypass Road) internal lookout. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Pit_gold_mine http://www1.superpit.com.au/pages/about_kcgm.asp DON PUGH PRODUCER: Don Pugh

The Mining Foundation of the Southwest is pleased to announce that Gary J. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer since July 2012 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since December 2011. Newmont is a leading mining company with gold and copper operations in the United States, Australia, Ghana, Peru and Suriname. The company is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and has about 28,000 employees and contractors worldwide. Goldberg is credited with turning Newmont’s performance around through a disciplined focus on value over volume. The company now leads the gold sector in value creation and growth potential. This performance is the result of successful efforts to improve underlying costs, efficiencies and technical performance; to optimize the company’s asset portfolio and growth pipeline; and to strengthen the balance sheet. Newmont has also reduced its injury rates by 52 percent, improved its social and environmental standards and practices, and increased female and national representation in its workforce under Goldberg’s leadership. He received a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to safety in the mining industry from the Society of Metallurgical Engineers in 2014. Prior to joining Newmont, Goldberg gained more than 30 years’ experience in the mining industry through leadership roles in coal, gold, copper and industrial minerals businesses. Before joining Newmont, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), where he was responsible for 19 mines and 29 processing facilities producing industrial mineral products. During his time at RTM, he improved earnings by 50 percent and reduced workplace injuries by 40 percent. He also served as Chairman of the National Mining Association in the United States from 2008 to 2010, where he led the CEO's Safety Task Force and launched the CORESafety® initiative, with an aggressive goal of eliminating fatalities and reducing mining’s injury rate by 50 percent over the next five years. Prior to this appointment, Goldberg served as President and CEO of US Borax. During his tenure, Borax was twice named the safest large mining operation in the United States by the federal Mine Safety & Health Administration and became the first mining company to receive the California Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award. He was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Climate Action Registry following Borax being named the first mining company to report its emissions and one of only 40 companies statewide to earn the distinction of Climate Action Leader™ under this rigorous program. Before joining the industrial minerals sector, Goldberg was Managing Director of Coal & Allied Industries Limited in New South Wales, Australia, one of the world’s leading coal businesses. Under Goldberg’s direction, Coal & Allied received a national environmental award for its work to restore native habitats and achieve sustainable land use in Australia. He served as director of Port Waratah Coal Services in Newcastle as well as the Australian Coal Association Sustainable Development Program Ltd., and as a member of the New South Wales Minerals Council. Goldberg was also appointed to the Australian Government’s Business Roundtable on Sustainable Development. Prior to his appointment as head of Coal & Allied, Goldberg was President and Chief Executive Officer of Kennecott Energy, headquartered in Gillette, Wyoming. He held numerous other leadership roles throughout the Rio Tinto Group, including Mining Manager for Kennecott Utah Copper; General Manager of Colowyo Coal Company; and Mining Executive reporting to the Chief Executive of Rio Tinto’s Gold and Other Minerals product group based in London, England. Newmont to become largest gold producer with $10 billion Goldcorp buy

03:26
Newmont Mining Corp said on Monday it would buy smaller rival Goldcorp Inc in a deal worth $10 billion, creating the world’s biggest gold producer in the face of dwindling easy-to-find reserves of the precious metal. The deal, the second high-profile merger in the mining industry since Barrick Gold Corp agreed to buy Randgold Resources Ltd in September last year, comes as the industry looks for ways to cut costs and increase scale. The company, which will be called Newmont Goldcorp, is set to overtake current leader Barrick Gold’s annual production and will have mines in Americas, Australia and Ghana. The Denver, Colorado-based company Newmont will also sell $1 billion to $1.5 billion worth of assets over the next two years as part of the deal, mirroring a similar move by Barrick when it announced the Rangold acquisition. After the deal the new company expects to produce 6-7 million ounces of gold annually over the next ten years and beyond. Barrick has forecast 2018 total gold production in the range of 4.5 million to 5 million ounces. The new company will be led by Newmont Chief Executive Officer Gary Goldberg. Goldberg will retire at the end of 2019 and Tom Palmer, Newmont’s chief operating officer, will then take over as the CEO. Newmont will offer 0.3280 of its share and $0.02 for each Goldcorp share. Based on Newmont’s Friday close, that translates to $11.46 per share, a premium of about 18 percent to Goldcorp’s Friday close on the New York Stock Exchange. The deal is scheduled to close in the second quarter and is expected to generate up to $100 million in savings, the company said. Vancouver-based Goldcorp’s U.S.-listed shares were up about 13 percent before the bell on Monday. Newmont Mining’s shares were down 3 percent.
