Newmont Paid A Premium To Invest In This Junior, Here’s Why

02:29
Newmont has bought a 5% stake in Evrim Resources, signaling the major miner’s confidence in this junior’s exploration projects, this according to Charles Funk, VP of exploration at Evrim Resources. “Newmont just came on board for a 5% placement in Evrim. They did it at a 40% premium to market so obviously they think there’s serious potential,” Funk told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek. Funk noted that Evrim may be sitting on a multi-million ounce deposit. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. The mine produced more than 40 million troy ounces (approximately 1.25 million kilograms) of gold during its lifetime. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * History of the Homestake Mine: The Homestake deposit was discovered by Fred and Moses Manuel, Alex Engh and Hank Harney in April 1876, during the Black Hills Gold Rush. A trio of mining entrepreneurs, George Hearst, Lloyd Tevis, and James Ben Ali Haggin, bought it from them for $70,000 the following year. George Hearst arrived at the mine in October 1877, and took active control of the property. Hearst had to haul in all the mining equipment by wagons from the nearest railhead in Sidney, Nebraska. Arthur De Wint Foote worked as an engineer. Despite the remote location, an 80-stamp mill began crushing Homestake ore in July 1878. The partners sold shares in the Homestake Mining Company, and listed it on the New York Stock Exchange in 1879. The Homestake would become one of the longest-listed stocks in the history of the NYSE (Con Edison's original name was New York Gas Light and was listed in 1824). Hearst consolidated and enlarged the Homestake property by fair and foul means. He bought out some adjacent claims, and secured others in the courts. By the time Hearst left the Black Hills in March 1879, he had added the claims of Giant, Golden Star, Netty, May Booth, Golden Star No. 2, Crown Point, Sunrise, and General Ellison to the original two claims of the Manuel Brothers, Golden Terra and Old Abe, totaling 30 acres. The ten-stamp mill had become 200, and 500 employees worked in the mine, mills, offices and shops. He owned the Boulder Ditch and water rights to Whitewood Creek, monopolizing the region. His railroad, Black Hills & Fort Pierre Railroad, gave him access to eastern Dakota territory. By 1900, the Homestake owned 300 claims, on 2000 acres, and was worked by more than 2000 employees. In 1901, the mine started using compressed air locomotives, replacing the mules and horses by the 1920s. Charles Washington Merrill introduced cyanidization to augment mercury-amalgamation for gold recovery. "Cyanide Charlie" finally achieved 94 per cent recovery. The gold was shipped to the Denver Mint. By 1906, the Ellison Shaft reached 1,550 feet, the B&M 1,250 feet, the Golden Star 1,100 feet, and the Golden Prospect 900 feet, producing 1,500,000 tons of ore. A disastrous fire struck on 25 March 1907, which took forty days to extinguish after the mine was flooded. Another disastrous fire struck in 1919. In 1927, company geologist Donald H. McLaughlin used a winze from the 2,000 level to demonstrate ore reached the 3,500 foot level. The Ross shaft was started in 1934, a second winze from the 3,500 foot level reached 4,100 feet, and a third winze from 4,100 feet was started in 1937. The Yates shaft was started in 1938. Production ceased from 1943 until 1945, due to Limitation Order L-208 from the Government. By 1975, mining operations has reached the 6,800 foot level, and two winzes were planned to 8,000 feet. The Fortune 500 is an annual list compiled and published by Fortune magazine that ranks 500 of the largest United States corporations by total revenue for their respective fiscal years. The list includes publicly held companies, along with privately held companies for which revenues are publicly available. The concept of the Fortune 500 was created by Edgar P. Smith, a Fortune editor, and the first list was published in 1955. The Fortune 500 is more commonly used than its subset Fortune 100 or wider list Fortune 1000. • How to make money from Fortune 500 Companies? Every year, Fortune magazine compiles their Fortune 500 list of American companies. This list ranks 500 public and private American companies in terms of yearly revenue, or the money they earn from selling goods and services in a single year. They determine the revenue through documents provided to the public and interviews with key company officials about their revenue streams. It’s safe to say that earning a position on the Fortune 500 is a pretty impressive feat. The companies on each yearly list make hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars in a single year. What they do with that money and how it accounts for their profit is unique to each company. Yet the Fortune 500 is sort of like a list of the wealthiest people alive — only replace those people with corporations. Today, Fortunate announced the top 10 earning companies on the Fortune 500. These American brands are well known throughout the world and brought it a minimum $150 billion in revenue during their 2016 financial year. Best of all, these 10 companies are all publicly traded, which means you can invest in them, too. Before you invest in any of these companies, you should probably know what they make and how they bring in ungodly amounts of money. Fortunately, we took the liberty to examine each company in the Fortune Top 10 and see what makes them so much cash.

08:11
The Mining Foundation of the Southwest is pleased to announce that Gary J. Goldberg, President, CEO & Director, Newmont Mining Corporation, was inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame on 2 December 2017 in Tucson, Arizona. Gary J. Goldberg was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer and joined the Board of Directors of Newmont Mining Corporation on March 1, 2013. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer since July 2012 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since December 2011. Newmont is a leading mining company with gold and copper operations in the United States, Australia, Ghana, Peru and Suriname. The company is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and has about 28,000 employees and contractors worldwide. Goldberg is credited with turning Newmont’s performance around through a disciplined focus on value over volume. The company now leads the gold sector in value creation and growth potential. This performance is the result of successful efforts to improve underlying costs, efficiencies and technical performance; to optimize the company’s asset portfolio and growth pipeline; and to strengthen the balance sheet. Newmont has also reduced its injury rates by 52 percent, improved its social and environmental standards and practices, and increased female and national representation in its workforce under Goldberg’s leadership. He received a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to safety in the mining industry from the Society of Metallurgical Engineers in 2014. Prior to joining Newmont, Goldberg gained more than 30 years’ experience in the mining industry through leadership roles in coal, gold, copper and industrial minerals businesses. Before joining Newmont, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), where he was responsible for 19 mines and 29 processing facilities producing industrial mineral products. During his time at RTM, he improved earnings by 50 percent and reduced workplace injuries by 40 percent. He also served as Chairman of the National Mining Association in the United States from 2008 to 2010, where he led the CEO's Safety Task Force and launched the CORESafety® initiative, with an aggressive goal of eliminating fatalities and reducing mining’s injury rate by 50 percent over the next five years. Prior to this appointment, Goldberg served as President and CEO of US Borax. During his tenure, Borax was twice named the safest large mining operation in the United States by the federal Mine Safety & Health Administration and became the first mining company to receive the California Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award. He was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Climate Action Registry following Borax being named the first mining company to report its emissions and one of only 40 companies statewide to earn the distinction of Climate Action Leader™ under this rigorous program. Before joining the industrial minerals sector, Goldberg was Managing Director of Coal & Allied Industries Limited in New South Wales, Australia, one of the world’s leading coal businesses. Under Goldberg’s direction, Coal & Allied received a national environmental award for its work to restore native habitats and achieve sustainable land use in Australia. He served as director of Port Waratah Coal Services in Newcastle as well as the Australian Coal Association Sustainable Development Program Ltd., and as a member of the New South Wales Minerals Council. Goldberg was also appointed to the Australian Government’s Business Roundtable on Sustainable Development. Prior to his appointment as head of Coal & Allied, Goldberg was President and Chief Executive Officer of Kennecott Energy, headquartered in Gillette, Wyoming. He held numerous other leadership roles throughout the Rio Tinto Group, including Mining Manager for Kennecott Utah Copper; General Manager of Colowyo Coal Company; and Mining Executive reporting to the Chief Executive of Rio Tinto’s Gold and Other Minerals product group based in London, England. Goldberg holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, and a master’s of business administration degree from the University of Utah.

TWENTY FIRST CENTURY KALGOORLIE, THE GOLD SUPERPIT FIMISTON WESTERN AUSTRALIA

14:44
Super Pit gold mine, ONE OF A SERIES ON KALGOORLIE SEE http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?q=DON+PUGH+KALGOORLIE From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Fimiston Open Pit, colloquially known as the Super Pit, ( 30°46′29″S, 121°30′34″E), is Australia's largest open cut gold mine. The Super Pit is located off the Goldfields Highway on the south-east edge of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia. Most of the gold mined in the Super Pit occurs within ore lodes formed by ancient shears in a rock unit called the Golden Mile Dolerite. As a result, the area is known as the Golden Mile even though the lodes occur in an area over 2 km in width and 1 km in depth. This renowned Kalgoorlie-Boulder land mark will eventually stretch 3.8 km long, 1.4 km wide and reach a depth over 500 m. Since 1893, when Irishman Paddy Hannan first made his famous discovery, more than 50 million ounces (1,550 t) of gold have been harvested from the Golden Mile. Originally consisting of a number of small underground mines, consolidation into a single open pit mine was attempted by Alan Bond, but he was unable to complete the takeover. The Super Pit was eventually created in 1989 by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Normandy Australia and Homestake Gold of Australia Limited. As of 2005 Kalgoorlie Consolidate Gold Mines Pty Ltd is owned by the Australian subsidiaries of the Barrick Gold Corporation and Newmont Mining Corporation and produces up to 900,000 ounces (28 t) of gold every year. The Super Pit is open for viewing at the public lookout daily between 7 am and 9 pm. Blasts occur regularly and can often be viewed from this lookout located off the Goldfields Highway in Boulder. Free tours of the Super Pit run once a month on Boulder Market Days. The tours give a behind the scenes look at the mining operations and equipment. A highlight of the tour is the opportunity to view the pit from the OBR (Oroya Bypass Road) internal lookout. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Pit_gold_mine http://www1.superpit.com.au/pages/about_kcgm.asp DON PUGH PRODUCER: Don Pugh

FILE: Cajamarca, Peru - April 2006 14. Various of Yanacocha mine STORYLINE: Thousands of Peruvian miners began a nationwide strike on Monday, demanding higher wages and more benefits, the country's largest mining union said. The government played down the strike as several of the country's most important mines - including Latin America's largest gold mine - continued to operate normally. Labour Minister Susana Pinilla called the strike a "failure," and told CPN Radio that "the principal mining centres don't have a single worker on strike" as several dozen miners protested outside the General Confederation of Workers asking for a solution to their demands. Many of the workers on strike are hired through external cooperatives which contract them to work for the mining corporations. The nearly eighty-five thousand miners working for the cooperatives claim they are receiving lower wages and benefits than their colleagues hired directly by the corporation. "It isn't the same because we earn a third of what the workers hired directly by the company earn, and we are all doing the same job," worker Pedro Cruz said. The National Federation of Mining, Metallurgy and Steel Workers, which represents some 22,000 miners, said the strike was indefinite. Luis Castillo, the union's secretary general, said workers will march through the capital, Lima, on Wednesday, after the May 1 Labour Day holiday. "The company has violated the law. They have violated the rights of the workers but the government does not say anything. They are simply talking, if the workers stop protesting and marching, who wins?" Castillo said. Workers walked off the job after talks between miners and the government collapsed on Sunday. The workers are also demanding increased profit sharing and the unionisation of subcontracted workers. A spokesman for Minera Yanacocha said that its workers have not joined the strike and that they were operating normally. The company is Latin America's largest gold producer and majority owned by Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp. But Guillermo Nina, a spokesman for Yanacocha's miners said they will analyse whether they will join the protest later this week. Peru is the world's largest silver producer, and the fifth-largest gold producer. Property Destruction and Intimidation of Peasant Family by Yanacocha Mining Company

00:36
On Tuesday 3rd February, in the highlands of Cajamarca, personnel from Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. along with the private security service of the mining company and 200 National Police of Peru invaded the property of Máxima Acuña de Chaupe and destroyed her house that was in construction. Maxima and her family recently won their court case brought against them by Yanacocha which accused them of usurpation – claiming that the land the family have been living on since 1994 and for which they have proof of possession, was instead the property of Yanacocha. This land is of strategic importance to the mining company, the world’s second largest gold producer, as it resides in the heart of their planned mega-mining project – Minas Conga. However after four years, two court cases and two High Court appeals, the family was finally vindicated. Yanacocha, composed of US-based Newmont (51%), Peruvian Buenaventura (44%) and the IFC of the World Bank (5%), owns and operates the largest gold mine in Latin-America in the province of Cajamarca and their next project would be Minas Conga, three times the size of existing operations. Máxima, her husband Jaime, and two youths who were helping build the house, an improvement to their small earthen home so as to protect them from the intense cold, were met by this heavy contingent of police, mining personnel and SECURITAS personnel, the Swedish security multinational contracted by Yanacocha, who proceeded to destroy their new house. The invasion was not justified by any judicial order or police warrant nor was a public prosecutor present. Yanacocha, in their defence, claimed that the house was being built outside the limits of the Chaupe family’s land. However, in the same press release they acknowledge that the land is within “Tragadero Grande”, the area of land identified in the court case and recognized as the family’s property. The family’s lawyer, Dr. Mirtha Vásquez, belied the company’s assertion that they were protecting the property in a pacific manner. Primarily because the entry of 200 heavily armed police and security personnel without authorization is a clear act of aggression. Secondly, the defendant cannot defend territory that does not belong to them. This was proven on Thursday, 5th February when the company returned once again with a heavy contingent of police, mining engineers and security personnel with the purpose of demarcation of the limits of the mining company’s property. Sergio Sánchez, Manager of the Regional Government’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, also present, testified that the result of this demarcation only demonstrated that the house in construction was in fact within the limits of the family’s terrain. Throughout the four years of the family’s ordeal, they have been converted into a symbol of the resistance for all those fighting the mining company. This further harassment of the family despite their court victory has caused great indignation amongst the local population and indeed amongst national and international solidarity networks. Local organizations such as the Plataforma Interinstitucional Celendina (PIC) and the NGO GRUFIDES are appealing for support in the form of actions of solidarity, accompaniment, or donations. The family remains vulnerable and isolated and fears further attacks. Thursday 12th February will be World Solidarity Day with Máxima. Each organization, group or individual can elect their own form of showing their solidarity such as organising a demonstration or march, sending a video, photo, letter etc., or hold an awareness-raising or fundraising event. Please send information on actions of solidarity to [email protected] Amnesty International has released an urgent action directed to Interior Minister Daniel Urresti: http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/asset/AMR46/002/2015/en/aa39845d-57a9-4bd4-a347-887da3990ff3/amr460022015en.pdf Front Line Defenders have also released a letter that can be signed and sent to President Ollanta Humala: http://www.frontlinedefenders.org/node/28032/action For more information and donations: email [email protected] or phone 0051 996179135

Askultura - 'In Water We Trust - Mni Wiconi (#noDAPL)' feat. Kuyayky & Pedro Erazo [Official Video]

05:55
Music Video for Miami, FL band Askultura ‘'In Water We Trust - Mni Wiconi (#noDAPL)' featuring Peruvian band Kuyayky and Pedro ‘el criollito’ Erazo of NYC-based band Gogol Bordello. #noDAPL! Mni Wiconi - Water is Life The footage covers several water-related urgencies around the world: 1. The #noDAPL/Mni Wiconi movement up on The Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Energy Transfer Equity/Dakota Access, LLC is attempting to build this and other pipelines subsidized by many of the biggest banks in the world. Politicians, mainstream media, national guard, state troopers, police are “business as usual” and ignoring/jailing the will of the people. Pull your accounts from these banks - do what you can. 2. The Cochabamba Water War of ’99/’00 in Cochabamba, Bolivia. US-based Bechtel Corp (disguised as Aguas de Tunari and backed by the pigs in the World Bank) raised water prices in their attempt to privatize the city’s municipal water supply. Public uprisings, largely organized by the Coordinadora in Defense of Water and Life, marched, battled police, and ultimately led to the expulsion of Aguas del Tunari and the repealing of Law 2029. 3. Led by Maxima Acuña, a movement stood strong against against US-based Newmont Mining Corporation/Yanacocha mining consortium (with backing from…yep, the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation) in Cajamarca, Peru. The gold mining causes toxic mine drainage and cyanide-laced water. Opposition has been met with violence and corrupt court rulings in favor of the corporations attempting to evict the people off their land. ‘Because I defend my lakes, they want to take my life.’ -Maxima Acuña Video Editing - Leo U’Mazzatoro The 9th Floor Schmucks, Miami, FL Recorded & Mixed - Sammy & Andrew Gonzalez The Bull Productions Recording Studio, Miami, FL Pdrito vocal track recorded - Cristopher Rodriguez Creepy Bird Studio, Bed-Stuy, NY Mastering - Carli Beguerie Mastering Boutique, NY, NY Thank you: The Gonzalez boys at The Bull Productions, Kuyayky & the Hurtado-Bonilla Family, Pedro "el criollito" Erazo, Cris Rodriguez in Brooklyn, brother Dan Marcus, The Porcupine Singers, Northern Cree, EZLN, The Wiwang Wacipi Sundance Families, and every single one around the world who have put their bodies & spirits on the line for water from Cochabamba to Cajamarca to the Cannonball River! Searching for gold in Nevada a nugget’s throw from Barrick’s Goldrush with NuLegacy Gold

04:27
James Anderson, CEO of NuLegacy Gold Corporation takes us through their very exciting 108km2 Red Hill/Iceberg gold property in Nevada, close to Barrick’s Goldrush mining operations. NuLegacy has already carried out geological mapping and a geophysical survey of the property, and has drilled approximately 150 drill holes. The results of some of that recent drilling has thrown up some very positive news in terms of gold mineralization. The Carlin-type gold deposits found at Red Hill, whereby the gold is hosted in sediments, means the potential is there for very extensive deposits, hence the stepping-out of the drilling targets which James describes in the interview.
