So You Want to Work as a Drilling Rig Leasehand?
So you've heard it's good money and you want to work on the rigs. But what's it like? On a drilling rig, the entry-level positions is Leasehand. The Leasehand's main responsibility is keeping the rig clean and tidy. Like any rig crew member, the Leasehand must be a hard worker, focused on safety, and physically capable to work a long shift and do some heavy lifting. With time and experience, the Leasehand will transition into a Floorhand position and from there progress to become a Motorhand, then a Derrickhand, then a Driller. This video follows Garrett Zuchkan, Leasehand on Savanna rig 651, as he performs his daily tasks of scrubbing the rig, carrying chemical bags, moving and wrapping hose, cleaning up tools, taking out garbage. Garrett briefly describes the other positions on a drilling rig crew and talks about the benefits and challenges of working in the oil field. Mining Jobs TV Episode 2 - Mining Career Opportunities
MINING JOBS TV Episode 2: Mining Career Opportunities Welcome to the second episode of Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and I will be talking about career opportunities that are available in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. We understand that many people these days are looking at getting ahead financially and seeking career changes - for that reason mining is a great opportunity for many people, regardless of your skills and experience. You could be forgiven for thinking that mining is a fairly specialised profession and that to get a job in a mine, you need to have worked in one before. That may sometimes be the case, but as you'll soon discover, not always. The reality is that across the board, there are probably just as many jobs that DON'T require experience as those that do. Obviously, there are some positions that require certain levels of experience or qualifications that you may not possess. For example, you can't go from being a builder's labourer to a Principal Mine Geologist overnight. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be expected to progress from working in an accountant's office one day, to setting the explosives in an open cut coal mine the next. Keep in mind that the demand for people, both skilled and unskilled is huge, and opportunities exist across all levels. It is in every respect a jobseekers' market. You just need to know what you're looking for, and more importantly, how to look for it. In the last year, mining and resources jobs in Australia grew by an impressive 13% - a figure unmatched by any other job sector. By location, jobs have grown by 5% in Western Australia, 21% in Queensland and a whopping 42% in New South Wales. Simple mathematics will tell you that there are just not enough qualified or experienced people to fill those numbers. If you want to work in resources, it pays to be resourceful. A great way to start is by looking for jobs in mining that relate somehow to what you're doing now -- anything from cleaning to hospitality or admin people have all got skills the mining companies are looking for. The Seek.com.au website will actually help you do it. You start by selecting 'Mining, Resources & Energy' in the Classification box and then you can drill down from there, looking at current jobs that appear for your perusal. You will see that there are many skills and qualifications that are very transferrable from other industries to mining. Mines need engineers, plumbers, electricians, builders, boilermakers, welders, mechanics, IT personnel, HR people, medical staff, logistics experts, heavy vehicle drivers to name just a few. Australian mining companies employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. But what if you don't have any skills or experience that relate to the mining industry? Fear not - there are still loads of entry level mining for you to choose from and you'll find many of them on the SEEK website. You'll soon discover that mines need a whole host of people like drillers' offsiders, administrative assistants, cooks and catering staff, cleaners and maintenance staff, childcare workers and general labourers. And many of these positions require no experience whatsoever. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, flexibility and a willingness to work. As you have probably heard, mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. I enjoyed talking to you today about mining jobs and hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 3 where I will provide an insight into unskilled and entry level mining jobs. If you aren't already signed up to receive the Mining Jobs episodes, fill out your name and email address in the box at the bottom right hand side of our website at miningjobs.tv or email us at [email protected] Thanks for watching and see you next time.

NAV Model (Oil & Gas): Production Decline Curve
When you're valuing an E&P (Exploration & Production) company, the Net Asset Value (NAV) Model is the key methodology. By http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" UNLIKE in a DCF, where cash flow growth is assumed into infinity, in a NAV model you assume the company's cash flows go to $0 eventually as it completely produces all of its reserves and has nothing left. A granular NAV model is complex, but it comes down to a 2-step process: Step 1: Model the company's existing production from wells it already has... and assume a decline rate for the annual production each year, also assuming commodity prices to determine revenue, and linking operating expenses to production and calculating cash flow like that. Step 2: Assume the company drills new wells in its PUD (Proved Undeveloped), PROB (Probable), and POSS (Possible) reserves. The second step involves dozens of sub-steps and assumptions, but here we're just going to focus on ONE small part of this process: estimating the decline rate of a new well the company drills. It starts off at a very high production rate, but then declines quickly within even the first year of its useful life - and we need to estimate the decline rates each year to build the rest of the model. You COULD do lots of complicated math, try fitting hyperbolic or exponential functions, run a regression analysis, etc., but we suggest a much simpler approach here: if the company doesn't disclose data on its decline rates for individual wells, find data from another company operating in the same region and fit it to your company's "average" wells. How to Do That: Step 1: Find the company's key data, such as the EUR per well and IP rate per well in the region you're looking at. Step 2: Now, see if the company discloses data on its own decline rates... if so, you're set! If not, or if it's not enough, find another company operating in the region that discloses more data (EQT here), and go to that company's investor presentations to get the numbers. Step 3: In the first year, assume that production is some % of 365 * IP Rate per Well... because there is a huge drop-off in daily production from Month 1 to Month 12 in that first year. EQT's data shows 45%; we assume 60% here since UPL has a slightly flatter decline curve. Step 4: Copy and paste the other company's decline rates into each year of your decline curve. Step 5: Enter the correct formula for calculating annual production each year AFTER the initial year... here: =MIN(AU129*(1+AT130),$AT$126-SUM(AU$129:AU129)) Want to take either Last Year Production * (1 + Decline Rate) (the first part), or the total remaining reserves in this well (the second part). Step 6: Set up Subtotal / Remainder / Total math and ensure that everything is produced. Step 7: "Fit the data" using Goal Seek and the Factor - multiply each decline rate by a certain factor and use Goal Seek (Alt + A + W + G) to solve for the factor that makes the Subtotal equal to the EUR. Step 8: Build in support for a different EUR by scaling the production up or down in the "Total" column. Step 9: Allocate the production to oil vs. gas. vs. NGLs. Step 10: Complete the Subtotal / Remainder / Total math at the bottom. What Next? Next, we'd complete this process for all the wells the company drills in every region, estimate revenue, expenses, and cash flow for each one, and then aggregate the discounted cash flow values in every region across all reserve types... Which brings us closer to the implied NAV per share, which is what the NAV model is really all about. Stay tuned for more!
Crude Oil Distillation Process Part 1
An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas. Oil refineries are typically large sprawling industrial complexes with extensive piping running throughout, carrying streams of fluids between large chemical processing units. In many ways, oil refineries use much of the technology of, and can be thought of as types of chemical plants. The crude oil feedstock has typically been processed by an oil production plant. There is usually an oil depot (tank farm) at or near an oil refinery for storage of bulk liquid products.

Coal mine accident: six die after gas leak in Spain
Sign up for a free trial of News Direct's animated news graphics at http://newsdirect.nma.com.tw/Reuters.aspx Six miners died while working in a coal mine in Spain on Monday due to a sudden gas leak. According to El Pais, the accident took place in northern Spain's Leon region in a gallery 694 metres below ground, where 11 miners were working. The tunnel measured four metres high and five metres wide. The leak of firedamp, a silent and odorless gas, happened around 1:30 p.m. when there were at least 150 workers inside the whole mine who started their morning shift at 7:45 a.m. and were supposed to finish work at 3:15 p.m. Firedamp is a flammable gas commonly found in coal mines and that accumulate in pockets in the coal. The leak happened quickly, and didn't produce any explosion. The workers closest to the source of the leak didn't have time to escape or put on their protective masks. They were overcome by the fumes, dying inside the mine. "The fire brigade went in but there is less than one percent of oxygen in the area where the gas leak occurred so no-one can stay there until it is completely ventilated," UGT union official José Antonio Colinas told reporters. Five workers were evacuated and then transferred to Leon's hospital, the regional capital. According to reports, one of them, is fighting for his life. It is still unknown why the gas detectors didn't send the alarm. The mine is operated by financially troubled Hullera Vasco-Leonesa. Four years ago, seven people were intoxicated in the same mine due to a firedamp escape. However, the company managed to extract the workers while still alive. Monday's gas leak is Spain's deadliest mining accident since 1995.

The Battle Raging In Nigeria Over Control Of Oil | VICE on HBO
Nigeria may sit atop one of the largest oil reserves in the world, but the majority of the Nigerian people have seen little benefit from the multibillion-dollar industry. The government and global energy companies have been exploiting the resource for years, bringing poverty, pollution, and violence to the Niger Delta. And now the local militias fighting for oil control have made conditions even worse. Caught in the conflict are Nigerian citizens involved in the illegal oil market simply for survival. Oil theft is rampant, and the booming black market has transnational oil and gas consultants concerned about the effects on global oil markets. The government isn't too happy about it either. “All the oil that is sold around here, the government calls illegally refined products,” local oil businessman Don Wizaro told VICE News. And when the Nigerian military raids illegal oil operations, they slash containers, releasing oil into waterways, contaminating what the main source of fishing, agriculture, and drinking water. As the government continues its assault on illegal refineries and barges carrying stolen oil, local militias are retaliating. And one of the most notorious militias is the Niger Delta Avengers. They attack pipelines and infrastructure, significantly affecting both the environment and the economy. VICE correspondent Gianna Toboni heads to the heart of Nigeria's oil production to witness firsthand the fight over the control of oil in the Niger Delta. This is a comedy skit for the moms with FIFO (fly in fly out) work away from home and or night shift partners. Plus how do the kids cope with a dad who works away from home? It can be hard at times, but I like to make it funny! You may have a partner, but you are mostly a single mom mum. Dad works away and he never seems to be there and if you do, then this video should get you laughing. It is better to laugh than cry. Well you can cry, then laugh and then cry and laugh some more. The may commit you, but what the heck. Just go with it! This video is all about the funny side of basically being a single parent and how I cope with the kids on my own. Plus how when my husband comes home from working away, the odd way he fits back into our lives. The life of a FIFO family. I am sain...I think I am. This is obviously a comedy. If you take it seriously - Take a long and hard look at yourself as you may discover you are too serious and you may suck! This was a request from a my spunky ass friend, Naomi - So I dedicate this pile o' shite to you my dear :D So dickheads, if you are tackling the kids, work and life balance without the presence of their father or mother most days of the year - this bag of dicks is for you... Diamond Drilling
Diamond Drilling is a quiet and non percussive way of forming holes and openings varying in size from 6.0 mm -1.200 mm in diameter, by using a wet or dry drilling technique precise holes can be made through all types of base materials. The precise nature of Diamond Drilling means that a well-trained and fully experienced operative is important to the success of any project. This is especially true as there are many various drill motors in multiple sizes, attached to a multitude of different types of rigs, of which are powered by various means: electric, petrol, or diesel. With many different attachments ranging from trailer mounted rigs, hand-held drill motors, twin column assemblies and automated rigs all of which can have a significant effect on the outcome of any project. Other forms of Diamond Drilling consist of stitch drilling, this method entails a series of holes drilled next to each other to form opening(s) for services and the like. There are various benefits of diamond drilling including the non-percussive nature of diamond drilling, which significantly reducing HAV's (hand arm vibration). Diamond drilling is free from bursting and spoiling and requires little or no reinstatement work and delivers a clean environment by attaching water and dust controls. Diamond drilling forms holes where the size or shape is abnormal and can be performed in a variety of materials - reinforce concrete, mass concrete, brick masonry and block work.

The Future of the Channel Country
This video is very personal to me. As noted in the video my son has returned to work on the family grazing property. When I was on the land I often questioned the effects of the nearby oil and gas industries. What would happen if a tanker carrying refined hydrocarbons from eromanga went off the road at the grass hut channels: was there an emergency plan set and were there resources in place to stop such a spill should it occur from contaminating an entire creek and channel system that people relied upon to live ? When I first started this project it seemed easy as I was referring to an area of Queensland that I had lived in and love still to this day. The research and questiong of those that might hold answers for me turned into a very complex task indeed. Hours upon hours of searching for maps and reading articles on how things worked in the mining sector, to the scanning of my own photographs to the computer, cropping and labeling each picture that may end up aiding people in the understanding of this issue. The channel country and the artesian basin are such wonderful priceless geographic features of Queensland. Yet my two sons, the one on the land and the younger one in grade 10 here in Brisbane have never studied this part of Queensland in their curriculum at school. Considering the area it covers in Queensland I still ask why are the children not learning about such wonderful natural assets. The rivers of the channel country are some of the last unregulated rivers in Queensland. It is imperative that the two industries of grazing and mining (whether gas, oil, gold, opal etc) work together so that this beautiful land can remain and sustain the original graziers and their families that still reside there. The channel country produces the original organic beef. Cattle are fed on native pasture and rain water in channels or what is still hopefully clean artesian and sub artesian water. Should contamination occur in such a fragile environment with unpredictable seasons of wet and dry, that contaminated beef could end up on our dinner plates here in brisbane. The family graziers have no means or way of possibly knowing if contamination has occurred. And if it does occur: the graziers too would become contaminated and not only their livestock. It worries me to see lack of regulation in an area where my son has chosen to live and work. It seems thoough for every one question answered for me ten more questions came to mind. This video covers a very tiny part of the channel country: what about mining and grazing in other areas of the channel country? It is time that mining companies work together with the graziers to protect such a beautiful landscape for all generations to come and move together safely into the future.

Produced by BlueMoon ScreenMedia ... Music by Laura-Doe ... BAD GAS! features an action at a blockade of Metgasco's CSG exploration well in Glenugie. This action was initiated by the Franklin family and other affected landowners, who chained themselves to a ute to block the entrance to Metgasco's drilling rig, The music video highlights the fact that oil and gas companies in Australia are given exemptions to the clean water act and permitted to contaminate pure water supplies with impunity. Activists were impeded from taking a sample of water from the well site for testing. Supporting profiteering corporate tyranny over the needs of people, police were used to break this and other blockades at Glenugie and arrest those who were exercising their legal right to protect water sources from contamination. The protest is ongoing with further actions at each new CSG exploration site. BAD GAS! is a teaser for a documentary currently in production by BlueMoon ScreenMedia. Please share!
