http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/you-can-help-dustin-fight-cancer-/316121 On Friday (2/27/15) 4-year-old Dustin Cannady abruptly stopped walking. And his autism silenced him from being able to tell his mom what was wrong. So she took him to the ER--where they were immediately sent four hours north from their hometown, up to Seattle Children's Hospital. Once there, Dustin was soon diagnosed with Leukemia. And it had caused his leg bones to become so frail that they could no longer bear the weight of his body; this is why he had suddenly stopped walking. Unable to voice that he wasn't feeling well, the Leukemia went into 95% of Dustin's bone marrow before it was detected. So the medical team told his mom, Heather, that he will need to undergo 6-8 months of aggressive chemotherapy and be kept within an hour of the hospital. This will require that the family of six relocate to the Seattle area. Needless to say, it will be a huge financial burden. When Heather told her boss what was going on, he responded in the most incredible way. Keith Moon, owner of Tumbleweeds restaurant, in Richland, Wa, decided that he wanted to host a fundraiser for his employee's son. And while he had hoped to raise just one thousand dollars, the local community rallied together and far exceeded his expectations. Burritos, renamed in Dustin's honor, were sold by the thousands. And by the end of the week-long fundraiser, Tumbleweeds, in cooperation with the local community, garnered $18,737.60 in donations! Mr. Moon's compassionate response to the Cannady family had a ripple effect, and he inspired many other local businesses to get involved--including Li'l Firehouse Coffee. These events were covered by two of the local news stations, KNDU (NBC Right Now) being one of them. And Dustin's story was able to unite a community! While these donations will help the Cannadys settle into their new location, it will only go so far for a family of six. So please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers, and consider further donating at the links provided in this description. Keep in mind that even .50 cents will add up if enough people do it. Literally no donation is too small.
