Gold Rush Expeditions, Inc. is happy to present The Monarch Rand Gold Mine. The Monarch Rand has a spotty history from its inception to present day. The mine has been noted for a large gold vein which is chased by the drift works. This vein is noted to be 3 ½ feet wide and carrying gold values of over 2 ounces per ton ($48.00 per ton with Gold priced at $20.75 per ounce). The mine is a massive old beast which has not been surveyed or mapped for at least 50 years. The original workings of the mine were reported to be 1600 feet. Today, there should be well over 4000' of workings in the mine.

The area surrounding Big Horn Mine was home to mountaineer Charles Vincent Dougherty, an American Civil War veteran who fled Arizona after murdering three men who were plotting to jump his claim. Charles lived a life of seclusion in the San Gabriel Mountains and started going by “Vincent” to keep a low profile. He discovered the Big Horn Mine in the late 1800s and it was named after the sheep he was hunting in the area. After a tragic bear attack, Charles Vincent Dougherty succumbed to his injuries in a Los Angeles Hospital, but not before confessing his murderous past to his doctor. Today, the Big Horn Mountain Trail is a beautiful 3.9-mile easy to moderate hike in the Angeles National Forest. It starts near the trailhead to Mt. Baden Powell and the trail offers stunning vistas of Mt. Baldy along the way. The "payoff" is the now abandoned Big Horn Mine at the end of the trail. If you're feeling adventurous, you may dare to enter the mine shaft and explore the vast expanse of abandoned mine tunnels. Here's how to get there: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/big-horn-mine-trail **WARNING** If you plan on exploring the mine tunnels, use caution and common sense. Abandoned mines are extremely dangerous and the hazards of tunnel collapse, arsenic exposure, and getting lost are a very real possibility. Proceed at your own risk. The Bluebird Mine was a flourishing silver mine in the mid to late 1880s, but its fruitful life was short. Gibson will explore the history that lead to the development and demise of the Bluebird mine and mill near Butte, Montana. Dick Gibson, geologist, tour guide, and author of “Lost Butte, Montana” will give the presentation. Gibson is an avid Butte historian who has presented lectures on local history at the Archives. His most recent project has been collaborating on the creation and development of the Butte Labor History Center, on west Park Street.

Yosemite View Ranch is one of the finest large ranch and recreational properties in the California Sierra Foothills. If you need to take a break from your ranching operation, you can go horseback riding, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, camping, and gold mining. Within 30 minutes there are three lakes for boating, fishing and swimming. For the hunter, you can hunt for trophy black tail deer and black bear on the ranch, as well as turkey, quail and doves. This property is located in Mariposa County about 7 miles from Coulterville, CA . Yosemite National Park, considered one of the most spectacular parks in the world, is just a short drive away. From parts of the ranch you can see Half Dome...the park is within a day's horseback ride. The ranch has large areas that are fenced and cross fenced for livestock. The Ranch can support up to 200 head of cattle, but there are several areas that could be cleared to create more grazing land. Yosemite View Ranch has springs and ponds supplying year round water. There are many areas for building your ranch home and even a large area that can be developed into a landing strip. The Central Sierra foothills have a long history of gold mining dating back to the great California Gold Rush. Yosemite Ranch lies in the richest area, the Mother Lode Gold Belt and includes four patented mining parcels, The Sweetwater Lode, The Southern Cross Lode, The Alta Quartz Lode and the Talc Mine, along with remnants of an old mining town, Cat Town History. The Bay Area is just a little over 2 hours away, Fresno and Sacramento less than 2 hours. When you develop your landing strip, you can be on your property from in state or out of state in no time. The ranch sits at a perfect elevation below the snow line, although you might get a dusting from time to time, and above the fog line, so the weather is often cool and clear. Weather We look forward to sharing this ranch with those looking to develop and escape to some of nature's most beautiful land. House: - 3700 square feet, that includes a 500 sq ft guest house with separate access. - Architectural design by Mark Gomm in the Spanish style common in California during the days of the spanish land grants - open and flowing layout that brings the wonderful views of the outside into the house - Owners, an artist and a skilled wood worker, selectively hired local craftsmen renown in their fields for such details as the custom hand plastered, 6” interior walls; custom wrought-iron gates and railing; imported doors from mexican villas; and custom cabinetry designed and built by “The Brethren” a religious order that honors 19th century woodworking precision and tradition. - when they could not find commercial materials, they made some of the materials themselves such as the hand painted custom tile risers in the staircase, and the spindles and corbels on the balcony. - the thick walls of stucco and plaster construction, the 9 tons of earthen floor tile, and Anderson low-e windows keep the house cool during the warm summer days - allowing the owners to restrict the 2 zone Air Conditioning system usage to just a few times a year. - the radiant heating floors, the multiple fireplaces, including a (xxx) stove, keep the house very warm during the winter - also contributing to low utility bills Outside: 21 acres of oak studded gently sloping hill - all perimeter fenced the landscaping was designed to be drought tolerant and low maintenance there is a large vegetable garden on automatic drip irrigation, and it includes a small orchard of fruit trees, all surrounded by an 8 foot high fence with electric security to keep the deers out there is a seasonal creek that flows downstream of the RMK Gold Mine, and with a little luck nuggets can still be found trickling down the creek facilities includes a corral, round pen, barn and “The Livery” a tack room with a revolving saddle wall to make tacking up your horse easy and convenient Area The town of Copperopolis is located in Calaveras County along highway 4, and is registered as a California Historical Landmark. The home is in the development of Diamond XX Estates - a community of 20 acre lots surrounding a lake known for its bass fishing Neighboring lots include homes, grazing lands, and vineyards in this peaceful community across the highway from Copperopolis Town Square, shopping and dining are just minutes away. Diamond XX Estates is less than a 2 hour drive from Bear Valley and Dodge Ridge ski areas, less than an hour and a half from Yosemite National Park, and about 45 minutes from Tulloch Reservoir - recreational haven for camping, boating, and fishing

As a kid Steve Rees played in caves and learned how the earth could cool. As an adult, he buried two shipping containers and created an off-grid retirement home for himself and his wife Shirley. After a few years of camping on their 10 acre plot in Northern California, they bought two shipping containers, hired an excavator and got to work. Doing most of the work themselves, their finished home cost them $30,000 (solar included). Their 640-square-foot space cost them less than $50 per square foot. Rees explains that while this is less than conventional construction costs, the savings only begin with construction. With a solar-powered well, a bit of propane and solar tubes for most of their light, they haven’t had any city water or electric bills since 2002. Winter temperatures in their home (even during 20 degrees outside) never fall below 62 degrees (an RV catalytic heater is sufficient for heating). Even when the temperature rises to 110 outside in the summer, their home has never risen above 82 degrees. When they asked the county about permitting they were told they “didn’t have a permit for burying containers”. They have been inspected since completing their home and they have a permitted septic system and a permitted well, just no permit for a single family dwelling.
