Please review the Logi MX Ergo plus!!

Spot on re gestures, it does indeed feel disconnected and non-instant.

Thank you for being clear about the Mac gesture woes with this mouse. Have been looking for magic mouse alternatives and have now essentially ruled this one out. Only review I have seen so far to be this in depth. I have been looking at the Logitech Ultra-thin which has gestures but is even smaller and touts being a travel mouse. Wish Apple would have just made the magic mouse more comfortable!

It connected easy enough,  but I cannot seem to all the buttons to work while connected via bluetooth.  All the functions (for me) only seem to work when using the dongle.  What am I missing here?

Thank you so much for comparing the gestures to a magic mouse or trackpad. That's the one thing I wondered about after using the M720 marathon mouse due to the lack of smooth scrolling and just general fail of gestures in general. The comment about emulating gestures really helped me to understand. I guess I will just have to live with the magic mouse 2. :D

I'm also an OSX user, but would never use gestures while using a mouse--seems counterintuitive for me. If I wanted to perform gestures, I'd opt for the large magic pad. I just ordered the MX Master 2S (white/gray version), and I cannot wait. Logitech should spend a bit more on their packaging, like, include a flippin' case, or at least include a door, for the dongle. Man, we're shelling out serious dough for this. I had to purchase a separate hard, clamshell case. No big deal, but I think Logitech should've included one at this price point.

I´m currently using a magic mouse on iMac...I find it very limitating comparing with my previous M570. Only thing I like on magic mouse is that I can navigate through photos horizontally. Can you do that with the MX master?...because if you can....I´m Sold!
PID (1 year ago)
Melchi Zedeq yes there is a horizontal scroll wheel on the side of the mouse

Please help: At 2:03, you have a screen full of options. I don't, just a few and no "keystroke assignment" option. What am I missing? I have MX Master {logimgr installer 6.40.106} + iMac running Mac OS 10.11.6

Thanks I bought it finally it's amazing I wonder why they charge so much
Maxime Vigneault (1 year ago)
You can also use it via bluetooth
CheekySwag (1 year ago)
Hello. I just wanted to ask that how do you swipe between desktops? Like on the magic mouse you just use one or two fingers to swipe. Thanks
Trystan Kaes (1 year ago)
With the included Logitech options software you can customize each button to work for a different thing as well as what are called "Gesture buttons" means that when you press a button, say the thumb pad on the mouse while moving various directions it will behave differently. I've discovered that using some combination of these gestures I can have something that feels as comfortable and familiar as the OS X trackpad gestures. I also enjoy that you can set a different setting for different app. I code in Xcode and I can comment out code by pressing a button and moving the mouse right. Alternately you can set the forward and backward buttons on the mouse to switch desktops. Logitech Options software is pretty powerful if you get into it. If you don't see what you want, look in the key bind option. If there is a keyboard shortcut, there is a mouse equivalent.
whatever nevermind (1 year ago)
Was considering this mouse as a replacement for the cramp-inducing magic mouse, but the poor gestures remarked upon in this video makes it a 'nope'. Just baffled why Apple made the magic mouse with such a low profile.
umit ikiz (1 year ago)
great video. thx. Can you zoom in and out timeline with one of these buttons?
Marcus Klausen (2 years ago)
Gestures can be remapped as shortcuts though.. I only use 2 spaces for instance but cmd+1 goes left cmd+2 goes right so I don't have to move my hand from wasd position or my other hand from the mouse. You make it sound like OS X isn't OS X without gestures.

Just got this mouse today from over 4 years of using the Magic Mouse. My hand is already cramping... It'll take some time to get used to it!
Jacob Milford (2 years ago)
I see that you have a iPhone dock what kind is it looks cool Thank you
Mohamed Malik (2 years ago)
Nice video, i already have a magic mouse 2, would you recommend this one over the magic mouse 2. What are the key differences....! will it be an upgrade or a downgrade...!
Helgi Magnusson (2 years ago)
I bought this mouse because of the bluetooth, to replace original Imac mouse. It's almost the same price. It's an improvement in almost all ways. Except, it keeps losing Bluetooth connections. Logitech forums have couple of hundred users with the same problem. And it's heavy.
Andrea Aleardi (1 year ago)
I read this only now, sry if it's a little out of date answer :) The mouse is not faulty, it's your mac, that do not support Smart Bluetooth (only since early 2013) so it's obvious that the bluetooth performance is not so good. Just my 2 cents.
Helgi Magnusson (1 year ago)
I know it is faulty, most likely firmware bug in the mouse itself, but it is not worth the hassle to return it to the store, stand in line and having to argue that it is faulty. I'll live with it for a while longer, then replace it with a different brand.
CheekySwag (1 year ago)
Helgi Magnusson ur mouse is faulty. Replace it for a new one
Helgi Magnusson (1 year ago)
I have Imac 2544, late 2012 version with OSX 10.10.5. Almost 7 months on and I still like to use the mouse and even though I have updated the driver couple of times the mouse falling asleep bug is still there and it still annoys me. The battery only last about half the time it did when new so I only expect half a year more out of it. Then it will be replaced with non-Logitech mouse.
CheekySwag (1 year ago)
what imac do you have?
Simon Abrams (2 years ago)
I dig this mouse; I used to use the older MX Revolution for a long time, so I was looking forward to this upgrade. I do like the infinite customizability of all the different buttons and the thumb scroll - it makes flying through photo editing with Lightroom really fast and efficient. I set it up to do Exposé and switch spaces, but it's still a disconnect from the native OS X gestures. Also, the horrible lag I've been experiencing with this mouse on OS X is a deal breaker.
Want gestures? get the cheap logiteck track pad mate, this is a mouse.
Marcus Klausen (2 years ago)
no he's right.. you can't review something and compare it to something that's totally out of its category lol
iCash (2 years ago)
on mac dumbass
Kevin Doyle (2 years ago)
It will not work "on any Mac", anything before mid-2012 does not have Smart Bluetooth 4.0, so that Mac will have to use the receiver.
Ray McCarthy (2 years ago)
I like how you weren't afraid to referance other youtubers. good review, thank you
JA L (2 years ago)
Look IOS paired with the magic trackpad are second to none. You've never been able to work so efficiently.
masm2002 (2 years ago)
Your video is the only on on youtube that shows that i can change between desktops using this mouse. Like and subscribe 👍🏻
swedenskill (2 years ago)
I bought this mouse and its the best mouse ever I used. But I would not recommend it for using on Macbook. Its not even effective like a cheap mouse when used on PC. I mostly disappointed at my macbook at this moment.
Ross MK (1 year ago)
You have to install some Logitech driver for it for Mac I had the same problem now it's great!
swedenskill (2 years ago)
Because you will not get the precision you get on PC. Its not the same effects of what real good mouse should work like. I don't think its mouse's fault. I tested the apple mouse on mac which seems to work better than MX master. But I'd prefer using MX master on PC because of its more advanced futures than apple mouse.
Naceron (2 years ago)
Why you don't recommended it on MacBook ?

Note: Battery life for single charge isn't 40 hours, it's 40 days.

You said 40 hour......you meant 40 days
piaquinta88 (3 years ago)
hi, have you an issue with bluetooth connection on a macbook? i have a LAG :-(
Ishaq Sharief (2 years ago)
+piaquinta88 Try switching on to the 5G channel of your wifi. I had the same issue. When I use my normal wifi, mouse lags a lot and when i use 5G channel, no lag
Branco Goossens (2 years ago)
I'm using the same. Do you have this problem if the mouse is connected via a USB cable?
piaquinta88 (2 years ago)
+Branco Goossens OSX 10.11.1 El Capitan.
Branco Goossens (2 years ago)
+piaquinta88 I have the same problem, what version of OS are you using?
Rs Mo (3 years ago)
Thanks for the review, very useful for a Mac user! So what mouse are you using daily? The Magic Mouse?
Jiří Fiala (3 years ago)
I use both a mouse and a trackpad at the same time - trackpad with the left hand, alternating with keyboard shortcuts, for switching Spaces and for gestures. It's a bit weird but super efficient.
blackw1z4rd (10 months ago)
mx master + trackpad on the left
pratikzeka (11 months ago)
May I ask which mouse/mice you have been using with mac for that combination?
Ken Or (2 years ago)
+Jiří Fiala - I use the exact same setup (trackpad on the left, mouse on the right). It got some getting use to at first, but now I love this setup which combines best of both worlds. BTT makes the trackpad a must have! Not weird at all :)

Ni Yizhou (3 years ago)
do u feel a little bit lag when connecting to macbook by bluetooth?  i have to use a receiver instead.
Mateusz Siniarski (3 years ago)
I have noticed lag via Bluetooth myself and it was the main reason for returning this mouse back... I didn't buy this mouse to use usb dongle with it
MrWILLJMS (3 years ago)
+Ni Yizhou I noted the lag with the bluetooth and now I am using the receiver and it worked well for a while now I see the lag again. I think I might return it this mouse is not intended for OSX users at all.
toruzz (3 years ago)
You should try to configure the buttons near the horizontal wheel to move between spaces. It's actually faster and more comfortable than gestures.
Anayatc (3 years ago)
if you configure gestures to buttons on the mouse it's actually faster than using gestures on a magic mouse or trackpad. and most power users use both the trackpad and a mouse in tandem.
Ruben van Dreumel (3 years ago)
i will stay at the built in trackpad of my laptop... it's good enough to get the job done for me, if not i will just plug in a wired mouse.
Vulcan Viper (3 years ago)
Might you be holding the Apple Magic Mouse wrong? I don't find it cramp inducing.
Turboxide (2 years ago)
I have pretty big hands, and I do feel cramped if I use it for longer than 30 mins.
Elias (3 years ago)
Thanks for the honest review!
Hindsight Aquatics (3 years ago)
Hundred bucks is a lot for a mouse that doesn't even fully work with Mac OS. I have its little brother-which cost $25-and it works great! It has no gestures but I rarely use them anyway.
Kris Alcordo (3 years ago)
+Hindsight Aquatics What is it's little brother?
DrMacintosh (3 years ago)
I think we OSX users are spoiled. Nothing beats using OSX on a desktop with a trackpad. My hands are flying everywhere XD

koubawe (3 years ago)
expensive and overrated! I would never think of buying a mouse for $100, No
iDB (3 years ago)
+koubawe As much as I hate to say this, since this mouse is loved by so many, I almost have to agree. I just don't see the hype. But maybe if I was a Windows user or a Linux user I'd see it differently.

You said that the battery lasts 40 hours...pretty sure you meant days?

+Julian Torres Yes, I added an annotation to correct that. Thanks, Julian!
